Twister - time has abused it badly

Twister.
Just turned it on the other day, and it was much worse than I ever remembered.
When it first came out, it had a certain appeal and was somewhat entertaining. I think I saw it in the theaters. My wife (at the time) and I had a close encounter with a tornado a few years before that scared the shite out of us lol and so, I was kind of fascinated with them. Anyways, even back then with that movie, the characters felt overly dramatic and exaggerated bordering on caricatures which is how movies are I know but I thought they were annoying somewhat even then.
So, moving to today, and the special effects, which were once considered passable, now look painfully outdated. The CGI that was once considered advanced now appears laughable and unconvincing, a reminder of how far visual effects have come. It seems much worse than a lot of tech-made movies who still seem to be watchable now.
Current understanding of tornadoes has also improved a lot, making the movie's depiction of them seem even more unrealistic and absurd. The explanations given in the film now come across as pure fiction, almost as if the characters were making things up on the spot, lacking any semblance of scientific accuracy.
Philip Seymour Hoffman's (RIP in peace) performance in this film has to be his worst. His character was over-the-top and cringe-worthy and way far from the roles he's known for.
Helen Hunt was just as bad. Her performance was forced and unconvincing. The lack of chemistry between her and Bill Paxton was obvious. It seems like they had never met before filming. She seemed like she didn't want to be in that movie at all. These days, I don't blame her.
Jami Gertz looked much older than she was, which is unfortunate because she is quite attractive even now almost fricking 30 years later. Her character seemed out of place and unnecessary. It didn't add anything to the movie. Helen Hunt did at least look decent though.
I couldn't watch it for more than 20 minutes before I had to turn it off. The film now feels like an ancient relic of the past (I must be an ancient relic of the past too lol). Too many flaws and the advancements in both science and filmmaking. It has definitely not aged well.

You couldn’t watch more than 20 minutes of Twister? The cheesy shite is at least 45 minutes in.

Caught it on AMC the other day myself. When he confronts Cary Elwes is hilarious. “What’s your malfunction man!” ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Call me crazy but I thought that was the appeal of it. The bad acting, cheesy lines, campy graphics, etc. but fun even back then.

This is equivalent to claiming "Saving Private Ryan" is a terrible movie now, because it doesnt include all the upgraded weapons and tech found on todays battlefields and war movies.

Twister is fantastic for the storm chasing era that it represents

That's an awful lot of hate to type out a page on a 30 year old movie.
