Back before a lot of you folks time but "The Honeymooners" didn't start out with Joyce Randolph and Audrey Meadows playing the wives of Art Carney and Jackie Gleason.
Also back in the day, William Bendix didn't start out as the star of "The Life Of Reilley", that was Jackie Gleason's role for a while.
Then in the 60's "Bewitched" swapped out Samantha's husband from Dick York to Dick Sargeant.
In the 70's you had Suzanne Sommers deciding to try her acting chops in film and she left "Three's Company" only to flop and the other gal who replaced her, but that was not beneficial to the show in my opinion.

Additionally, changing Andy’s character to a lovable golden retriever. He was supposed to be characterized as a dead beat douche and be essentially a one off character, but Chris Pratt was so awesome the writers changed it.

That’s a good one. Season 1 Andy sucks so bad and he ends up being one of the best parts of that show

Season 1 Andy was sort of a stalker which made him almost menacing

Justified.
Boyd goes from being a one off character originally killed in the pilot to the primary antagonist.

I don't know man. Coach was the best character to me when he was on the show. Woody is solid but Coach was money.
But..That give us Woody Harrelson. Not a lot of shows have launched careers like that since those days.
Dude is still cruising strong.

Psych- Lassiter's female partner was switched to Juliet after the pilot. Pilot detective would not have been nearly as good.
Monk- I liked Sharona, but think ultimately Natalie is better.

Valerie Harper being replaced by Sandy Duncan in a show called “Valerie,” no less. There was a lot of legal wrangling that went on after the move and I think Valerie won the case. Maybe it was Jason Bateman getting a bigger role, but the show seemed much better with Sandy.

Ever see the original Frank Costanza character ? Putting Jerry Stiller in that spot really brought that show to life. Stole every scene he was in.

He was cast on King of Queens to basically play the same character and he stole those scenes too

Steve Landesburg was a guest star as a criminal on Barney Miller before becoming the regular character, Dietrich.

I would say that the two biggest changes (Diane to Rebecca and Coach to Woody) were beneficial
I've been doing a Cheers rewatch and one thing i noticed binge watching is the chemistry between Ted Danson and Shelly Long is way better than between Danson and Kirstie Alley. The Sam/Diane relationship was played out imo and ended in the prefect amount of time and the show was still funny, maybe getting back to the original intent on focusing on the bar and the other characters.
