Reading an article about the Lera Lynn song and I found this bit to be interesting...
quote:
Burnett, the storied producer who also composed music and assembled the soundtrack for season 1, met Lynn through her manager. He initially considered using one of her existing songs for “True Detective,” the title track of her 2014 EP “Lying in the Sun,” which features a gently sliding vocal melody and pedal steel guitar. But after the two clicked last October over a lunch with drinks (martini for him, wine for her), Burnett invited her to Los Angeles to write with him.
They worked quickly, building songs around phrases and imagery supplied by series creator Nic Pizzolatto. For the song that became “My Least Favorite Life,” she recalls, “I believe Nic said he was looking for a song about a lover who dies and comes back as a crow.” (That may or may not refer to an image that appears during the climax of episode 2.)

Jombie Zombie hates it so I'm feeling great in my opinion that it was good.

In regards to Kitsch scars, doesn't it just look like road rash from laying his bike down in the past. He obviously loves him some motorcycle speed and attempts high risk maneuvers. First thing I thought of when I saw his scars.
Oh and thus far 1-0, season 1 is up. Who would have thunk it.

I'm on team "Woodrugh is gay" although being on a team named that makes me feel gay.
Re-watching the episode, and that dude doesn't want anything to do with banging her. A guy that just got screwed at work and is depressed and not feeling frisky does not take a viagra just to make sure he keeps her happy. That guy just doesn't frick her. A guy hiding in the closet does whatever is necessary to stay in the closet. Also, his scars are not from his time in the army as he explicitly states that, so army-PTSD is probably not the major source of his issues.
And to avoid people using the actors' initials to refer to them, please post this in the OP
Ray Velcoro: Colin Farrell
Ani Bezzerides: Rachel McAdams
Frank Semyon: Vince Vaughn
Paul Woodrugh: Taylor Kitsch
Also, is Ray's partner Warren from "There's something about Mary"?
ETA: Another thing I noticed is that Ray was with LAPD up until Frank turned him out and then he went to Vinci PD. So, I am assuming that several other of the Vinci cops are probably in Frank's pocket also.

He seems like a loner so what's the point of having a beard if he's gay?

The opening song is a Leonard Cohen song, he's one of the greatest song writers of all time. The Sopranos opening theme was also a Cohen song.
The song at the end was by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Cave was heavily influenced by and a huge fan of Cohen.

Because he works with police who are generally portrayed as chauvinistic.

Would be kinda cliche and simplistic IMO.
What reason would he have to stay in the closet living in LA?
How many cops are openly gay? I would say extremely few.
Another clue that he could be gay was him turning down the BJ from that hotties but nhe may have been trying to be a moral cop.
When he took that Viagra did he get it from the bathroom or a closet? Somehow I missed him taking it, not sure how.

A lot of times, extreme emotional distress will give you limp dick.

I wonder if it is that or some patterning toward really intense situations leaving him to where he can't really get joy out of anything but extreme shite. Hence the bike riding.
I really liked it. It probably won't be as S1, but this board is always going to be a little biased. I think they're really going to hone in that central CA dark and soulless theme, and the first episode certainly conveyed that.

Just watched. They tried to cram way too much into the first episode. I'll give E2 a chance but I honestly didn't like this at all. If it weren't on the heels of the first true detective I probably wouldn't give it a second chance.

Should have eliminated the McAdams character...she serves no purpose other than a forced bad arse female character...her and Ferrell are exactly the same. Would be better if it was just Riggins and ferrell. More time to develop their dynamic.

i've lived in LA for 33 years and have never seen anyone that looks or dresses like colin farrell's character. Between the haircut, the mustache or the cowboy outfit im not sure what they were thinking.
I've either lived in or spent a lot of time in L.A. for over 30 years. You must spend all of your time in . . . hell, I don't know . . . Century City or Westwood?

Yeah just eliminate the best actor / actress on the show. Comparing her to Ferrel is a joke.
Posted on 6/23/15 at 11:59 pm to guedeaux
All one needs to do is google Woodrugh is gay and the answer is there.

I'd put Farrell's best work (Seven Pyschopaths, In Bruges among others) against anything McAdams has ever done
