I really hope season one didn't set the bar too high...

Because it was remarkable television.

All the reviews I have read say this season (at least the first 3 episodes) are inferior to the first season.

Everything about it looks inferior.

It would be challenging to come up with 10 series superior to True Detective season one. Therefore, it could still be a good show.

shite, I hated the Leftovers five episodes in but stuck with it and it really paid off.

No way it'll be as good as last season but I'm in.

i'm guessing it's inferior b/c the real hook in season 1 was the occult shite (and people casually forgot about that by teh end)

no cool factor to keep interest? you see the show for what it is

of course. no chance it's as good. with season 1, we're talking about something that Pizolatto has probably been thinking up for years—something he'll never top. compare that to something that he had to write in under a year and we run into trouble. looks like he is applying the damaged character template to more than one character as well. im expecting mediocrity, at best. ill be pleasantly surprised if it's anything above that

one of the worst letdowns ever for me. didn't veil my disappointment by using all the "the plot is just a vehicle for the characters, it's really just about them!!" apologist bullshite that everyone kept incessantly parroting

This will not meet the expectations of the 1st season. There is just no way they can recreate S1's magic

I was excited, but I noticed that the new season will not have the same director. That makes a huge difference. I will watch every episode, but I have tempered expectations.

never before has "this was a journey of 2 characters" in various forms been uttered so often over a 2-week span

oh yeah, and that had pretty much NEVER been mentioned in the first 2/3 of the season

but you know what had? the occult mystery. about 90% of all discussion was about that. the other 10% involved cheating and dadarrio's tits

not super excited for this season, I think they're gonna overdo it on some of the aspects with the troubled characters but will watch tomorrow and see.

For me a large part of the allure of S1 was the creepy scenic Louisiana along with Fukunaga's great filmography, definitely gonna miss that

ill never forget it. that was so painful. all these blooming cinema scholars waxing poetic about how this was about "more than the story. it's a complex character study." how profound!

yup.

that was pure denial. episodes 1-5 were some of my favorite TV ever, and 6-8 just completely lost direction

Yeah there will be a couple different directors for the episodes. Definitely going to affect the feel from episode to episode.

Only took one page and a handful of posts before people came in to shite on an episode/season they haven't seen yet.

In all seriousness, season 1 will be hard to top. But it shouldn't be a stretch to expect it to be better then most shows that are on right now. Hopefully it holds up to that, but people are going to have some ridiculous expectations after last season.
