I just want to know what Mcadams tried in bed that freaked that guy out so bad
It's gotta be butt stuff
I'm going to guess given her character's demeanor - she was going to peg him.

Did a bunch of yall really like last season particularly because it was set in Louisiana?
The fact that it was set here made me want to watch the first episode a little more, but once I did it didnt matter where it was set.

Was the first episode good?
My wife is out of town so I am waiting to watch it.

I thought it sucked. And I have no interest in being cool on the Internet.

good, not great
basically introduces you to all the characters and sets the tone/mood for the season

Her repressed sexuality has made her a little too freaky behind closed doors then
I don't think enough credit has been given to Mcadams though. She's completely transformed herself for the role, while still looking fine as hell.
If I didn't know it before hand I wouldn't believe that that was the same chick from wedding crashers

the scene where all 3 of them were standing there looking around at each other was cheesy as hell
I didn't find it that cheesy really.
But I did think it was a bit weird that Farrell had literally passed out at the bar from chugging straight liquor, and McAdams had just been kicked out of a bar for (I assume to be) overdrinking....and then they both drove to the crime scene piss drunk.

Why is that weird? Seems in line with both their characters

Weird in that two cops would do that. Maybe weird isn't the right word, but I was just like "Nice job, guys" when I saw that.

McAdams works for the county, right? I was wondering why she would get called
Farrell works for the city but McAdams partner didn't know about this city? that didn't make sense to me
and Kitsch works for the highway patrol

Yeah, the "What's Venti?" (or whatever it's called) line seemed weird to me. But I guess if it's out of his jurisdiction, maybe he wouldn't know what/where it was.

Four years ago, prosecutors brought corruption charges against the city administrator and the mayor, who had been in office more than half a century and was a scion of the family that founded Vernon. Last week, the state attorney general subpoenaed records from the city after reports in The Times of lavish salaries, benefits and expenses enjoyed by top Vernon officials.
crazy, so now I get why the other cop had acted like he never heard of "Vinci" Like Vernon it's a suburb of LA, yet is very tiny with much more businesses than residents. *(the real Vernon has 90 residents, while being less than five miles from downtown LA)
Posted on 6/22/15 at 8:53 am to CocomoLSU
I found this article about the city that Vinci is apparently modeled after and I guess if it just this little industrial "town" where no one lives it would make sense that he might not know about it...although he is a cop and should know those types of things

Vernon was founded on Sept. 22, 1905, by the developer John B. Leonis, and from day one, Leonis wanted to build something different. He set the borders of Vernon near train tracks leading to and from downtown Los Angeles.
While "True Detectives"' Vinci has the relatively generic feel-good motto "Towards Tomorrow," Vernon doesn't bother: On the official city seal you'll find the phrase "Exclusively Industrial."?
?And in its almost 110 years of existence, it's abided by that motto magnificently. There are just around 100 residents living in Vernon's 5.5 square miles, but nearly 50,000 people go to work there every day. Vernon is a town designed to do business: it has its own water and power agency, its own police and fire department, its own health department.
And also like Vinci, Vernon has a history of corruption.

Probably because you're from or very familiar with Louisiana.
As someone not from LA or CA I felt a sense of place very strongly in both opening episodes of both seasons.
Many reviewers have stated the same. The direction isn't quite as good this season since Fukunaga didn't direct the entire show. It will clearly hamper the feeling that he was able to draw out from the setting.
This season will be a much more straightforward cop drama; less mysticism, less "creepiness."
It is an homage to film noir and California-set mysteries like Chinatown and the Big Sleep. It will be a good show, but not like season 1 really, which had that air of the supernatural.

Yeah they did say they had been waiting on him when he finally arrived, and considering a body was dumped maybe it was pretty far away from the town?

So CHP and Kitsch made discovery, it's McAdams county jurisdiction but Farrell's missing person case from Vinci. They all gonna have to work together while realizing how fricked up each other are.

I think a lot of you guys are severely underrating the LA backdrop.
There is a lot of really seedy underbelly to the city that I think will make for a great setting.
Not to mention the complexities between county, highway and all the municipalities around LA county.
I lived there for 2 years out of school so its pretty intriguing to me. Nothing like Season 1, which we all knew, but it should be good nonetheless.
I will say I'm a little disappointed already with McAdams and Ferrell. Are they basically the same character? McAdams is the more straight shooter, but I could have gone without here getting drunk in the Casino while Ferrell was doing the exact same thing. She didn't need that in her character build IMO.
Klitsch might be the most intriguing to me, although he seems like a possible poor man's version of Rust Cole except slightly less obsessive.
I think Vince is going to be really good. But I've always liked VV.
