Vaughn's character is my favorite. I hope we find out a lot more about him/past. He's very quiet/stiff, but I wonder if he'll open up and frick somebody up if he has to. Seems like with the other, we already know what they are, with their troubles/problems. But there's a lot more to Vaughn.

To be fair, S1 was a story all on its own, and S2 is a completely fresh and new story; they aren't (supposed to be) related at all.
you're not supposed to compare it to the first one and let it stand on its own.
and then you compare it to the first one and then find out it can barely stand on its own.

I thought it was odd too. Even if the guy has no professional ties to the city, it's just right on the outskirts. I would imagine most law enforcement people in New Orleans have heard of Metairie even if they don't have to work there.
when you look into Vernon it make a lot more sense.

It's just supposed to be another city in LA County. There's hundreds of them.
Sherman Oaks, Malibu, Long Beach, Callabasas, Glendale, Eagle Rock, Pasadena, Van Nuys etc etc.
LA County has a higher population in that one county than 43 US states have period. It's insane and it's gigantic.

Pizzalot said this story is about the secret history of the occult in the California transportation system in an interview

I'm going with finger in the butt. Or some kind of sado-masochism.

Yeah my first thought was either butt or choking.

I thought he backed off the occult stuff?
so we have a perverted city manager helping crime bosses build more casinos on property adjacent to a new high speed rail system
I think the city manager is going to be involved with sex trafficking or something like that
not sure where the occult could tie into all of this but I guess we shall see

Of I had to guess I would think the occult may have to do with how Vinci was starter over 100 years ago ..not sure but nick did say that is what it is about

The history of Vernon is pretty interesting. It's a corporation that hides itself as a city. They have cheaper power (30% cheaper) cheaper water (their own wells) and control all utilities.
They bill themselves as being "Industry only" yet have 100 residents, all of who live in city owned housing and have to vote the incumbents or the chosen successor. There is no way to top the corruption other to pull the city's incorporation. This was under way, then the star witness died.
This in my opinion is a really interesting set up for this season.

I gotta admit
the scene where all 3 of them were standing there looking around at each other was cheesy as hell

I am taking the "less mysticism, less creepiness" bit from a review by the Grantland Podcasters that have seen the first 3 episodes already.

Haven't read the thread, how was it overall?
Seems like it'll be a good season?
Watching tonight.

I don't need every season to be set in Louisiana, but having that setting made gave the show a different feel from anything else out there. There's been countless shows set in L.A. so that element is lacking this season. Just wish they'd have put it somewhere more interesting.
