Lot of people trying waaaaaay to hard to be edgy and cool in here. Think I'll just skip the threads and enjoy the series.

Yeah, that was a flash back to like 12 or 13 years ago since the kid is now 12.

I liked it a lot. All of the acting was solid. Most of the characters were well crafted and interesting. I was drawn into the story by the end.

Some reviewers said they had a hard time keeping up with things. I'm not sure why. Everything was pretty self explanatory for the most part.

Loved the scene when Colin Farrell goes to that bully kid's house.

I am definitely interested in where things are going. Count me in so far.

7. In season 1, the atmosphere, Louisiana was a silent character - a force that pushed the story. Here in CA - I'm not really feeling that so far.

Probably because you're from or very familiar with Louisiana.

As someone not from LA or CA I felt a sense of place very strongly in both opening episodes of both seasons.

I really enjoyed it. That song from the bar is stuck in my head.

I have a feeling all day tomorrow I'm going to be hearing "This is my least favorite life" in the back of my mind.

I liked it as well. Looking forward to future episodes. I have to admit thou, it was hard not thinking of season 1 while I watching it. I kept thinking that this city just paled in comparison to Louisiana.

Looks like Colin is a severely compromised cop to say the least. Casper's eyes were gone and he had a hole in his pelvis.

I guess some of us have the mental power to block season 1 while the rest of you sound like a bunch of sheep. No offense but are you people going to compare to this season to 1 every episode?

Yea, I'm trying not to compare the two seasons.

I like that there're different actors in this season. It helps me see it as an entirely different show.

I don't expect it to be better than season one, but that won't take away from my enjoyment of season two. I'll judge it based on how it holds up on its own.

Fingers will point towards them but I think we can expect a lot more out of True Detective before we grasp what's going on here.

That was really good. I didn't have very high expectations, but that exceeded them by a mile. The scene with Farrell at the dad's house was wonderful.

Was really glad to see some of the "known" guys they've casted for some of the non-leads. The guy (Timothy V. Murphy) that plays the Russian played an IRA guy/bad guy in Sons of Anarchy (Galen) and Criminal Minds (Ian Doyle). As long as he shows up without his little giraffes from the commercial, I always assume he's going to frick someone's world up.

Also David Morse (George Washington in HBO's John Adams, Brutus Howell in The Green Mile, among several other thigns) is Rachel McAdams Dad and Jaimes Fraine (Lord Warwick in The White Queen, Franklin Mott in True Blood, Thomas Cromwell in The Tudors, etc) is one of the detectives Colin Farrell talked to at the station.

I hope we see some more of those three as they're all quality actors.

All in all I enjoyed the episode. Thought it was interesting that the guy that was murdered had a house full of sexually explicit art/material and had his eyes removed as well as a "significant pelvic wound". Should be interesting to see where they go with that.

Looks like the motorcycle cop could be gay?
Eta: also thought the chick he was banging may have been the missing girl from the foreclosure people

Several other things confused me but can't remember everything right now

I think you need to watch again as you didn't get anything right

Eta: show was ok, nothing great but it was a setup ep. The beat down was brutal and the butt frick line was funny

There was a good bit of cliché writing of the characters and situations. I think there's promise though. Looking forward to next week.

Solid first episode.

It's not quite as ominous and creepy as the first season, setting wise, but it's absolutely dark. Lots of twisted individuals, and it'll be depressing as frick at points. I dig it. It really got moving in the second half of that episode. I loved the bully scene.

I thought it was solid as well.

Only thing that concerns me is that I could see all of the troubled character storylines becoming tiresome, but it'll be interesting to see how they play those out.

And holy frick Colin Farrel is psycho

Loved this. I refused beforehand to compare it at all to Season 1 and it was very enjoyable.

The acting was top notch. Some people were complaining about too many characters being broken, but I thought it made everything more interesting.

At times, stuff felt confusing/jumbled, but this was the case at times in Season 1. Can't wait to see where the story goes.

I'll sum it up for me.

If this episode had been ep. 1 of last season I would have stopped there.

However because last season was awesome, I'll hang in and watch a few more to see where this goes. Major fall off in interest and intensity.
