I mean...when you're standing at attention getting your arse chewed by a senior officer, and then break military bearing to turn and make a comment to someone, it usually means it's because you're surprised by something. Watch the scene again. Goose clearly had no idea and even looks somewhat annoyed/angry.

Fair enough. Not only can I see that, I think you are likely correct. Nice catch.

I took that look to be more of a "how the frick does Stinger know?"

I think I'm adopting Rolltide's interpretation. He's not resigned. He's not "caught" (by proxy). He's startled at the news and all Mav does is raise his eyebrows in confession.

I've rewatched the original hundreds of times. I've never had the desire to rewatch the remake. Other than the nostalgia, it's a predictable, boring story.

The original Top Gun was probably my favorite movie growing up as a kid.

If it had come out in Summer of 1985 instead of 1986, I'd likely have taken that offer to Annapolis and my life would be very different today.

That's one of the reasons I liked it so much.

I thought it was so so but I can see why people like it, but this:

I think it deserves an argument for the best sequel of all time

Is where you lose me. Just an absolutely absurd statement.

I could have done with more jets, less love story.

You serious, Clark? That movie was chock full of jets.

The effects (practical or CGI) in the final dogfighting scenes are incredible.

How so? It definitely has a similar feel to it, but this one involves multiple teams on a mission to perform a run over land and in dangerous terrain, with super dangerous maneuvers and against superior weaponry and planes. Sure, the final firefight is similar, but Mav is dominated by that last plane and has to be saved.

It’s not The Force Awakens where it’s almost a carbon copy. They made it plenty different, at least IMO.

the way this story linked back 30 years was brilliant and fun. I enjoy Maverick just as much or more than the original.
I really enjoyed TGM. A good movie, well done, with so much nostalgia and fan service. It was a celebration of the original movie, which made it so much fun.

But it made me realize that Hollywood was actually capable of doing sequels and remakes this good - movies that honor the source material, that are fun for fans of the original. Stories that grow the beloved characters from the original.

Too many sequels and remakes destroy the source material and ruin the original characters - sometimes it seems like they are purposing crapping on the original. So much better to do what they did in TGM and celebrate it.

that would be one of the shortest arguments in Cinema history.

Yes, but it could have been 6 hours of jets and I would've wanted more.

I wore out 2 tapes of the original from watching them so much.

man....it amazes me how people cannot just enjoy movies anymore, and have to dissect and nit pick every little detail.
This can be said for both movies and TV shows.

Still- "I'm bothered enough by the age gap in these middle-aged actors, that it detracts from the storyline because Maverick may be a pedo"

8 years, you say? So Maverick was say, 26-28, and Penny was 18-20. He was a poon hound, and she was a hot college chick with good bloodlines. I see no problem.

And people aren't always the same biological age in movies, anyway. I've seen parent/child that are 8 yrs apart in reality.

Tell me, does Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade bother you too? Because Sean Connery was only 12 yrs older than Harrison Ford.

Other than ripping off Star Wars and the idiocy of not taking out the airfields and anti-aircraft guns it was a not completely horrible movie.

It’s not a great movie, the Mission Impossible franchise blows it out of the sky.

No, me. I've derailed this thread enough(not intentionally). I'm just going to start a separate thread.
