Maybe Hollywood is finally figuring out the formula to make half a billion dollars at the theater isn't that complicated and not everything needs to be a social commentary.
Good plot, some humor, family friendly, likeable actors and characters....big profit.

More than likely Mav would be an air wing commander/CAG like Stinger was in the original. I think they are typically captains. If Mav got his admiral star(s) he most likely has a desk job somewhere.

Navy fighter pilots typically become Commanding Officers of aircraft carriers. Guess what ship is the flagship of battle groups. Lots of Navy pilots have been Admirals in charge of battle groups.

Maverick was the best movie I’ve seen in the last two decades. I’m sure Cruise can top it. Wonders if he dies and hands the franchise over to Rooster.
