This may sound weird, but this was a disappointing second half of the season yet weirdly a satisfying finale for me. It was a little overly “fan service” for my liking…it all just felt so forced and crammed into one episode.
I almost feel like this episode is how the last few should have been. It would’ve made the closure so much better IMO. But outside of Saul throwing his seven year deal into the trash, I really enjoyed most of if. It’s almost unforgivable for him to do that though. I get that it was maybe Saul punishing himself similar to how Kim did to herself. But still.
Everybody saying “I guess people who didn’t like it only wanted shootouts” need to shut the frick up, y’all sound stupid. It’s perfectly okay to be critical of the last few episodes of this series. It’s deserved. And it doesn’t mean that people want mindless violence or nonstop action.
Kim showing up in prison as Jimmy’s lawyer felt a little weird to me. He’s in jail and doesn’t really need one anymore. I guess that’s just her way of being able to visit him..??
All in all, if we had more stuff like this episode in the last few, the quality would’ve been much better for me. But that being said, I think the more I think about this season, the more I’ll like it. This show is easily better than Breaking Bad. And like I’ve said before, that’s not a knock on BB at all. It’s simply a testament to how fricking good this show is. It’s fantastic television. And even the last few “epilogue” episodes (episogues??
) have been good television. I just wish they didn’t feel so much like wasted time. But based on those episodes, they ended the series about as best as they could have. I had faith in VG and PG, and the the most part they delivered for me.
Can’t wait to rewatch this series in five or six years. I have a feeling I’ll remember it very fondly and will enjoy it just as much, if not more being able to binge the second half of this last season.

I fricking loved it. Not just a wrap up of BCS, but the whole BB universe. Really like how they tied it up with Chuck too, and Kim and Jimmy having one last smoke.

Saul is an enigma. He had multiple opportunities in the Gene timeline to cut bait and fly straight. Live his life financially secure but anonymous.
Now he is jail because in the end he chose to be there.
I don't think that fits the character. Saul's a cockroach.
Sacrificing himself for honor isn't his wheel house. It didn't fit the character arc at all. He was ripping off a cancer patient 53 minutes before.
Just strange end and whimper or an ending. Saul would have taken the 7 and admitted the Kim run around was a lie.
That doesn't set right with me.

Saul trashed his 7 year deal to protect Kim
Kim went to prison to tell Saul I know what you did and why you did it
The sharing a smoke was them returning to when they were at their best

I was hoping Kim was going to pull out the blue bell ice cream from her purse instead of a cigarette

Protected her from what? By admission they were likely sitting on that case permanently. He dragged Kim's name back up.
The whole thing is a facade. Kim was never at risk.

He didn’t care about himself anymore. This was the point. He saw Kim and wanted to get back into her good graces. He finally listened and turned himself in. And got to do it on his own terms. Saul gave him an out but he went with Jimmy instead.

I liked this show, but saying any show is "easily" better than Breaking Bad is pretty laughable. That show had it all. Great writing, great acting, great dark humor and phenomenal suspense. And the ratings and reviews showed that.

The whole scene in the dumpster ruined it for me. The Saul we knew would have had an escape plan ready to go and not headed back to his apt. And why didn’t he just take away that lifesupport button and push her scooter over. Would have given himself plenty of time to get out of dodge.

I enjoyed that episode a lot. I just didn't care for him throwing away his 7 year sentence. That just doesn't fit his character, IMO. Seeing Chuck and Walt, although pure fanservice, was still freaking awesome.

quote:the whole episode was about time machines. During the confession he went back in time and destroyed Saul leaving only Jimmy.
Nothing left to analyze. Guess he cleared his conscious and protected Kim from his own admissions? Weird. Just do the 7 and walk out. Only thing I can figure that makes sense is he refused to framed as a victim and wanted his due credit. Even if it came with a price. I think it was all about Saul's ego. If that somehow benefited Kim too, well that's great.

I get the point of Jimmy saying goodbye to Saul (Saul Gone) but the execution was bad. Throwing away the deal to protect Kim, who was not at risk and really accomplished nothing, was shocking from this creative team. I’m actually really surprised. It was still a great show and nothing can take away from that but that ending, wow.
Plus, let’s face it. He was loving it on that bus when they were chanting “better call Saul.” Saul ain’t dead by a long shot. He will be running that prison from the inside before it’s all over.
