RoP is just bad storytelling of a convoluted story with some meh acting

HoD is a political thriller soap with some intrigue
and some GREAT acting,

I’ve got a theory too. Maybe Amazon is just trying to copy GOTs last two seasons

Grey? There’s very little grey in HotD.

But I do agree with your general gist

Not to mention, GOT actually has legit actors and much better writing.

ROP writing is pretty shitty, and i haven't found a likeable character yet.

Since you invited the comparison, I'm curious: which HoD character have you found "likeable" so far?

The OP was talking about GOT in general. Also, there is a ton of time left in HotD for the white hats to become black and vice versa. I quit GOT when it passed the books, but I believe Dany had quite a shift in the last season.

GoT has nothing to do with bad writing, awful story telling, and clunky scenes. RoP missed the mark.

The reason people are upset with RoP(at least me) is Amazon had unlimited resources to tell a great story and rushed a crappy version using high points of Jackson's version that had little back story to them if not familiar with the books.

At least Jackson made it enjoyable and the story was smoother throughout.

It is simply not easy to write good fantasy, so the story sucks. It's amplified because instead of being some random shitty story, they've bastardized a beloved series in the process

Black dwarves or hobbits/harfoots doesn’t make any sense. Amazon and much of Hollywood inject random minority character because of the liability of “racism” accusation. They are just covering their asses but in return, you hear a mediocre, not believable storyline.

The good thing about woke movies and shows is that they don’t have rewatchability factor. 10 years from now, people will forget about rings of power. Same about Ghostbusters rehash, Terminator dark fate, Rise of Skywalker. They just can’t stand the test of time.

Nah, I'd say they focused on the Jackson movies instead of the books.

The backstory being created in Rings of Power is not from the writings, but it does correlate with the movies.

100% of the hate for Rings of Power is that it's not Tolkien, and Amazon spent a boatload of money on an IP which is abysmal. In every conceivable way.

Game of Thrones stood on its own, and despite a horrifically bad season 8, House of the Dragon is universally 'better'.

That is what I mean and posted in another thread last week. They are appealing to those that watched the movies and not concerned with those focused on the books. The majority of the people that saw the movies I doubt ever read the books. A smart decision to focus on a group of viewers already there from a business standpoint.

Again exactly how I see it. Amazon is filling in the gaps of the origins of major characters and places in the movies. Galadriel, Islidur, Durin's Bane, Mt Doom, Sauron, and now it appears Galdalf. All were major plot points in the movies but very little on how we got there in the movies regarding those.

They could never win this argument. LOTR is far superior to Game of Thrones and I fricking love the Game of Thrones series to this point. The last two were the only times I’ve ever bought a book the morning it came out, but the storytelling is still inferior to the genius of Tolkien. He’s in a class by himself as a writer of fantasy.

Me and my little brother have been doing it for years. I'll tell him that Game of Thrones is just a low budget bootlegged LOTR, and he'll tell me no way and that Game of Thrones is better.

I'm no Tolkien fan, but Game of Thrones is really just expensive and well-done softcore LOTR.

Dude. People are capable of and even prefer having multiple good shows to watch. It’s not a zero sum game. But when one option sucks, then it’s not an option.

As one of this site's biggest RoP critics, I'll lay it out like this.

I've read LoTR books, but I'm not a lore fanatic.

I loved Jackson's LoTR films, though aspects of the third film never sat well with me (scrubbing bubbles army of the dead). I hated the Hobbit films.

I loved seasons 1-5 of GoT, but noticed a decline in the subsequent seasons to ultimately loathe season 8, just like everyone else. I was not overly enthused about any spinoffs b/c of how bad season 8 was.

When the showrunners of HoD began to talk about the same dynamics (modern audience, blah blah virtue signally blah) I was ready to dismiss it as well. Big difference here is HoD is actually well written and acted, despite the strange aging/character replacements in this show.

My alarms went off when they began to talk about making a modern day vision for everyone to enjoy, as if everyone couldn't/didn't enjoy the original works. Throw in the constant fan attacks and you have the hatred.

I have come to enjoy aspects of RoP that appeal to my inner MST3K troll. The show is simply terrible.

HoD is actually well written, directed, and acted. RoP is not

This is my exact thoughts on the whole thing. We could be twins.

I'll add one last insight: for lots of LoTR fans, the books are considered "sacred text" and Tolkien the Godfather of fantasy fiction. What Amazon did to his characters is just wrong. It would be like making Moses a cross dressing pedophile or the Mother Mary a meth head stripper.

frick those writers.

I think a lot of the hate has to do with them repurposing dialogue and scenes from Peter Jackson’s movies and completely changing Tolkien’s lore to be “more accessible” while also ignoring the fact that Lord of the Rings is one of the most widely accessible novels of all time.

The diversity! casting left a sour taste in the mouths of rational people, but HotD did the same thing.

But it makes sense from what I’m aware in House of the Dragon. You can write it off that a member of House Velaryon married a Summer Islander and you’re done with arguing. But no, in Lord of the Rings the diversity hires bring up many questions, and none of them are good.
