Tried watching it and it was the same. Everyone had a stupid nickname. Seemed like it was trying too hard to be cool.

I mean, most people consider it good. That’s the general consensus, hence why it’s always ranked so high on those lists.

It’s not for everybody, like most shows, and maybe you don’t like it. I mean you cant honestly think though that just because you don’t think it’s good that it’s not great. I mean you admitted you didn’t even finish the show so you can’t even really speak on the quality of it.

I mean that is pretty accurate for any inner city area. Even growing up in 90s in BR public schools, there was some wild nicknames.

Idk it just didnt click with me. Maybe its because i never watched it while it was on then i watched the Shield. The Shield is top notch tv imo. I really tried to watch the Wire to see what the hype was all about. None of the main characters were interesting either.

May want to edit that, or at least label it as spoilers. Especially if OP wants to keep watching. Pretty dick move to post on a thread where the OP is halfway through S1.

I’ve started the wire after all the praise it has gotten on this board. Idk if it’s me or the show, but I’m 7 episodes into the first season and I find it to be very boring and slow paced. Does it pick up any, or is that how the show is?
They will downvote me to oblivion, but the show is the most overrated show on this board.

It's decent, but very boring and slow. I agree with you.

Thanks in advance for the downs.

I had the same experience, quitting after about 7 episodes.

But I resumed it several years later and I’m glad I did.

Each season got incrementally more interesting.

My bad. Wasn't trying to be a dick. I do apologize to anyone that read it that hasn't seen it.

I watched two seasons. Pretty much had to force myself to watch it. Started the first episode of season 3, and said F this.

Didn't enjoy it whatsoever. I have no idea why the show gets so much love on here.

That's how it is. It's a grind to get through. It's not bad but it shouldn't receive the praise it gets because it doesn't hold up well. The last season is straight garbage.

I'm sure at the time it came out it was great but you really aren't missing anything.

The technology obviously doesn't hold up well but it doesn't have to.

If this thread proves anything it's that it doesn't receive the praise it deserves.

If you liked shows like Braking Bad, Peaky Blinders, Justified, and True Detective, you can thank David Simon and The Wire. It was a groundbreaking story telling and character development and dived into subjects shows wouldn't touch on that they now do regularly because of The Wire.

That's like telling someone not to watch Casablanca because better movies have come out since then.
