I liked how they did Ben’s story even though it’s such a cliche to have the closest person to the character betray them. It was easily seen if you’re familiar with this genre.

yeah I had an inkling pretty early on when he mentioned he worked for CIA

I've been staying away from this thread but got to binge the whole thing yesterday. Great series.

That explains one ongoing question I had about Ben regarding why he was taking so many steps that would jeopardize his job. Guess he figured either he’d be dead or if not it wouldn’t matter because he was done with that shite either way.

Yes this was quite an entertaining watch. In the books Katie is of Czech ancestry and becomes romantically involved with Reece.
I didn't see any sexual chemistry between Constance Wu and Chris Platt, so I wonder how they would write this into a 2nd season. I'm in the middle of book 4 now, but of all of them so far book 3 was the best.

one thing i haven't seen anybody mention, and you're free to go either way, was Jai Courtney.

I feel like he is typically the most miscast person in Hollywood. Don't ever feel like he adds anything to his role that somebody else could have.

Playing frat daddy SEAL investor bro was right in his wheelhouse for a change.

I still didn’t get how he was okay with killing these guys. They weren’t necessarily involved in his little war at all.

A politician hired private security. Some dude probably went to work that day like any other and never again.

This is true, and I’m sure he would rather avoid it, but as Reece says, they are in the arena. They are combatants. In war you have to accept that some of those you are killing are just doing their duty, like you are.

Every scene with him was designed to make you hate him more and more. His play acting as an operator, his tattoos, everything.

This is how I see it too. He wanted Reese to compete the list which is why he told him about Maricopa, Peru. He knew the bank statements would tie to Peru and he gave himself up. It was his way of making amends, not a way for him and Reese to hang out on the beach for the rest of their lives. He betrayed his brothers and knew he was responsible albeit indirectly for the death of Reese’s family.

Feel like Ben should have been alive for season 2. More like an anti-hero.

Who helps Reese but who Reese cannot accept.

Ah well

Reese actually has a side kick in the other books but it’s going to be hard to come up with an actor as likable as kitsch.

But they weren’t in a war. They were just going to work.

Work that required trigger time and firearm training; and likely much more. Maybe even body counts.

Nah, the UPS driver is an innocent civilian. The armed security/bodyguards are mercenaries, hired guns.

I just finished rewatching ep 5, you have the 2 guys sent to kill the bald company owner and the journalist in the subway. One succeeds in killing Mike, but the girl gets him in the stairway. The other would have killed her in the street if not for Reese killing him first.
Later, when Reese is hitting Horn, he's trying to not get any civilians. He waits for the journalist to get clear of the van. But the bodyguard, if you watch, turns and sprays wildly a few times. Twice firing behind while looking the other way, sweeping the street.

The only "jumping the shark" moment was surviving the landslide he created and the FBI agent surviving as well. This was going down a waterslide. Both should have been torn apart from the rocks and boulders.

I can totally overlook that because the story was so damn good.

He's a Jack Bauer type of character.

You can call them innocent, but they weren’t civilians. That’s just silly.

I could be wrong because it’s been a long time, but I don’t remember anything from that episode in the book. Either way it was the weakest episode. The part I did like was Reece leaving the round on the top of that hill.
