Overall I enjoyed it and would say it's good, but has some flaws.
I haven’t read the books so I’m assuming Ben’s death was in there as well but I wish Reece had spared him.
He was just shown forgiveness by the FBI agent then goes on the finish Ben.
I was hoping he would realize that Ben was the only family he had left
Plus I loved his character so it would have been cool to see him in the next series.

Finished it Friday. Mostly good, though I didn't care for the last few eps. Even in the world of action/spy thriller, the series went way overboard a few times. Or to put it more accurately, it lacked verisimilitude.
But probably the worst was the finale', where we're supposed to believe his buddy was SUCH an integral part of this whole mess that he obviously knew what Reece had to do, yet fully cooperated all the way.
How did he not see this coming, or try to do something about it along the way? Please.
That just felt forced and added on, for effect.
Other than that, I dug the character and his motivation.

He absolutely saw it coming. He cared deeply about Reese’s family and it truly went sideways on him when they were pulled into the mess he helped start. I think he felt from that point on that he deserved to die.

So he knowingly sold out his SEAL brothers, Reece included, basically sentencing them to death, (not to mention their families) then saw things go wrong, but carried on the charade as a brother in arms, doing all that he did to bring Reece to the point of taking out the SecDef, KNOWING that if he survived, he'd somehow figure out that his name was gonna be on that list too?
I don't buy it. Sorry. In a movie that exceeds believability in many areas, Ben played this game all the way out with the greatest of poker faces only to get snuffed at the end?
Just comes off as cheap and tacked on.
As for the SecDef, she was pretty self rightious too. For all that she rambled on about, how quickly did she pivot once Reece was face to face with her? She had 3 options.
Try to talk him out of it & plead for mercy - nope
Aim the gun at him and take her chances - unlikely, but a slim shot.
Take herself out.
Her choosing option 3 was pretty anticlimactic, after that long winded self-righteous rant. It's almost like she didn't believe it herself, as hard as she was trying to say otherwise.

I actually thought the cheesiness factor dropped in the later episodes and it got a little better. Agree with the poster who said the Hartley thing sucked, it was like an afterthought even though he appeared throughout the series.
I think it's always the case with adaptations that they end up forcing some elements of the book (poorly) while leaving out some that should not have been. It seemed like they had to do the Hartley part to make it go far up the chain but forgot to really lay any foundation that anyone would care about. I don't really understand why they made some of the changes they did (no Hartley husband, no Muslim cleric, Horn, no east coast, etc.), although some seem more practically driven than others. Taking out the mosque part was lame.
If the series continues, I think they've got a big opportunity to improve on it. Subsequent books are less a laundry list of villian characters and there is the chance to put more focus on place (Montana/Africa/Russia) and develop the relationships/characters more.

Am a big fan of Clancey and read most of his books in the 90's. Before he started 'collaborating' and what not, but still, he was a master at 'didn't see THAT coming'.
Certainly seems like some elements seemed forced and shoehorned into the story.

I find it interesting that half the episodes were directed by African Americans. It’s always interesting that diversity means nothing if it doesn't further a leftist agenda.
I think it’s because they don’t pat themselves on the back for it. Antione Fuqua has a fantastic resume especially with military/cop/spy type movies and it’s because of how good he he is and has nothing to do with his race. He just makes good/great movies.
His worst movie was Magnificent 7 and I still liked it.

Do y’all think it gets more seasons? It seems people are receiving it well. I can’t imagine they don’t proceed with season 2.

I can certainly see your point. But in the book they just kind of threw money at Ben at the end and got him to turn. He actually was not in the book as much as he was in the show. I think having him genuinely help with the list knowing he was going to Likely eventually be on it gave him a little redemption. I appreciate what they were trying to do so I’m a little forgiving that it wasn’t executed perfectly.

Just finished it. I don’t love all the changes from the book. But I loved what they did with Ben. He was such a compelling character in the series. He had so many chances to kill Reece that he passed on. He genuinely wanted to help with the list, even knowing that he was on it. He even was honest about his plan to go to Peru, knowing that Reese could track him down there. Reese didn’t want to do it, but as we saw in the final flashback: he loved his brothers, but he loved his wife and daughter more.
I missed having Hartley be basically a 1:1 clone of Hillary Clinton. I also missed the storyline with the Imam.

Did they even mention her husband in the show? I’m on the last episode and can’t recall a reference.

I don’t believe so, no. They veered far away from the Clintons in her portrayal. She was more human and tragic, and I understand this was probably better writing, but man I just wanted to see It happen as in the book.

Brother you didn’t comprehend the finale at all it seems.
Great show. I wish he would have let Ben live at the end as Ben felt such remorse that he would have lived in agony and likely worse than death.

Yeah I don’t recall her being somewhat sympathetic at all in the books. I remember it largely being about profit as well as the issue with her if it was exposed was because she wanted to run for President.
Been awhile since I read. I may be mistaken.

On episode 6 right now, awesome so far but I know you can't watch this with any light on, the show is dark as hell
Posted on 7/11/22 at 6:16 am to saintkenn
Episode 6 was the worst, totally a filler episode and the bomb induced avalanche scene, the worst / unrealistic scene in the whole story IMO. The whole series was great, though, just a few times where you say” c’mon “, so I’ll take it…

The plan was for the team to die in Syria. If that happens, nothing happens to Reece's family. He gets money and Reece dies an honorable death (instead of via tumor).
When Reece's family is killed, he basically resigns himself to death, but wants to help Reece get revenge before he's discovered/killed.
They should have had him put the money in an account for the wife/kid b/c THAT is the weakest part of the explanation. Why he OK'd the operation in Syria was weak, but him helping out Reece along the way makes total sense. They should have had him do the reveal, though. That would have been honorable.

The Sec Def offing herself was surprising. Ben was definitely a surprise. Hell the FBI agent was a pain in the arse but in the end he made the right call.

I liked how they did Ben’s story even though it’s such a cliche to have the closest person to the character betray them. It was easily seen if you’re familiar with this genre. Only person I questioned was the SecDef. Was expecting that other politician SecDef was working with on the budget. Problem with these types of shows is that they only give you a small cast and you only have a handful of people to say “that person did it, he betrayed them”, can’t just pull a rando out the air and say they are the mastermind.
