I said this earlier in the week. If they wanted to have her rival Tyrion, Varys, littlefinger, etc in terms of her game playing ability...great. That’d be a great angle for one of the stark kids. They’ve just done a pretty poor job of showcasing this meteoric rise on the show to get us to the point where she’s talking down to Tyrion.
I honestly can’t remember her chapters in the latter books that much. Not sure if Martin did a better job of this.

Samwell is by far the most intelligent person in the show.
Sam is book smart. The only reason Davos is not at his level is he wasn’t taught to read until relatively recently.

Varys had the most connected source of information and used it well.
But he’s sidelined himself to just dick and ball jokes. He hasn’t really been relevant since Season 2.

Varys and Tyrion’s characters are not nearly as interesting as they used to be

He tried to get his swagger back by threatening Melisandre, but she made his butthole pucker with one comment.

I think the books do her a little more justice of having her witnessing how to play the game and her learning from her experiences. At least in the last books she is literally sitting next to littlefinger watching him play the game. She doesn’t actually make any moves though

And you present a great case study. Sam v. Davos. Given the the same resources and opportunity.
Is Sam only book smart? And due to his upbringing? Is Davos not book smart, but has that capability and hasn't been able to dive into it because of his life.
I'm probably derailing this thread, and not my intention. It's fiction work, but I like to dive deeper sometimes.

She was in the company of Tywin Lannister, so yes kind of a stretch she considers Sansa smartest she knows

I agree. It's a bad case of forgetting the rule of "show, don't tell". Don't TELL me Sansa is the smartest one on the continent. Show me. And they haven't really done that enough. She "outmaneuvered" Littlefinger, but a lot of that was Arya, and it was EXTREMELY disappointing.,

I know most of you don’t read the books, and I don’t want to sound condescending, but Sansa becoming smart and cunning and politically savvy is well established there. The show just skipped all that and went straight to super Sansa

It was Bran, not Arya. Show Sansa has constantly been rescued by other people. Mostly men, despite the girl power vibe past season 4, save Brienne. Idk I pretty much hate watch it at this point and don’t want to rant.

It really depends on if She figured out LF's bullshite, or if Arya or Bran had to tell her. If she figured it out on her own... Kudos!

I think Arya was either being darkly sarcastic with that comment or just screwing with Jon. She just didn't look like she believed what she was saying.

Did Tywin ever figure out who Arya was? If not, it would drop his intelligence level quite a bit.

I don't know why it would.

It makes much more sense in the books. Varys never had any intention of coronating him and simply used him to distract Robert from what his true endgame was.

Yeah, but Arya never said Sansa was the "smartest person she's met" in the books, so those don't really apply here.

The smartest person on game of thrones right now is Cersei.

I agree that the littlefinger trial was trash. There couldn't have been a more blatant attempt to get rid of character.
I watch post episode interviews and follow other D&D interviews. They honestly just care about promoting actors. The in show continuity doesnt matter (Dorne being the biggest victim).
Sansa has been through alot, but there is a better way to display her growth than other characters fawning over her.
