That scene is so awesome. I was pulling for Cook.

What I loved about this film the most is that it is the exact opposite from 2001. While Stanley Kubrick takes a fatalistic stance on technology, Christopher Nolan takes the exact opposite approach. Interstellar is an ode to the human spirit. It is that age old, but often forgotten, message that we are indeed limitless beings who, if minds are put together, can achieve anything. The above link is a microcosm of that belief. When TARS tells Cooper that what he is trying to do is impossible, Cooper simply responds: "No. It's necessary."
Us 2001 takes a very optimistic approach on our future, while Interstellar takes a pessimistic one. Kubrick didn't see it coming that just beating the Russians to the Moon would end it, but Nolan saw that as embarassing, and needed to directly address mankind's neglect on our space program as a whole. He even had a nice parallel that it took as much time to get from here to the Moon Landjng as it did from the Dust Bowl to the Moon Landing. Shows how far we've descended as a species as far as taking ourselves to the next level.

We're not able to go to Saturn yet. We still have a long way to go. Also, this movie blows 2001 out of the water.

If things were as desperate as they were in Interstellar, I guarantee we could at least have a mission going there within 10 years.

Which is why I need to let it congeal a little before I can crown it - but, I'm still talking positively about it the next day. That's a good sign.

No. Just no.
Interstellar is a hallmark card compared 2001.

I'm not ecstatic about either one, but 2001 is rubbish, IMO.

To each their own and everything, but that comment really bums me out.

I've only seen it once. I'll give it another shot. It bums me out that my comment bumed you out so much.

I don't think any movie will be able to come close to what 2001 was. That movie was a masterpiece and something the world never saw at that time. You could easily argue that 2001 is the greatest movie ever made.

I still can't get over the docking scene. I don't think I have ever been that tensed up in a movie. Love this movie or hate it you have to say that scene was perfection.

False. That honor belongs to Batman Begins...
Then later...The Dark Knight...
Then later Inception...
Then later The Dark Knight Rises...
Then later Intersteller

That's what I'm saying. There's a whole lotta hyperbole about that scene. It was good though.
I'd say the first goodbye with Murph was one of the better scenes as well as when Cooper was watching the video of his kids growing up.

I cried like a baby during that scene. I can't imagine how I would have reacted if I had kids at this point in my life.

of course
but it still made me tense as hell, which is why it was such a great scene
the cinematography, the score, the dialogue, all were perfect in that scene

Yeah, that what I enjoyed about this movie. You have typical action intensity and also the intensity on the emotional scenes. That video scene wrecked me.

I read somewhere that the sound issues (music louder than dialogue) is actually some new form of technique that producers are using.
