You thought that looked good? It wasn't Gravity quality. IMHO of course.

i agree. I was very disappointed in visuals, especially after hearing the praise here. Gravity was 100X better as to visuals. Also, dialogue was very hard to hear.

yeah Gravity was a lot better in many aspects. Except maybe the story, the gravity plot didn't have much to it, but for the type of movie it didn't need much.

Scifi in the last couple years at-least in my mind

1) Gravity
2) Intersteller

3) many other scifi movies.

Even overall for movies I've seen in the last couple years these two movies are near the top.

I'm not ecstatic about either one, but 2001 is rubbish, IMO.

no every likes 2001, but it is one of the most iconic scifi movies of all time. Just because a movie is considered great doesn't mean you are a heretic or something if you didn't like the movie. But 2001 is truly a masterpiece of film.

A meeting of "They" is called to order. First item, "The folks on Earth seem to be having a survival problem. The climate is wiping them out. I move that we help them."

Any discussion? "OK, but how?"

"Well, let's create a wormhole and stick it out there so they can find it. Let them figure out the rest."

"But, how are they going to get all of their people to the safe haven?"

"Oh. Good point. I know, let's hide initial clues in binary language communicated to a teen aged girl in a rural setting. Then, let's put the really important information within the second hands of a wrist watch. Maybe, some 20 something years later, she'll find it and be able to figure things out."

"That's sounds risky. Why don't we just build them a ship and go pick them up; then, we can transport them to safe haven?"

"NO, that would make a boring movie. Besides, we have control over time. If this plan fails, we'll just take a mulligan and reset things for another take."

This movie went way over your head. You took the mystery and philosophy way too literally, IMO.

you missed one of the most important aspects of this movie. This isn't they it is us. Your saying that they have unlimited power and choices.

Do you think if a strange ship showed up on earth, and was filled with super humans that people would just say oh hi you are friendly lets follow you.

The plot isn't as stupid as your making it out to be.

Not to be a dick (and I'm about to be), but that seriously invalidates your opinions on this board.

I could see how people could think this is boring, especially the younger generation, who has been stimulated with noise noise noise, action action action. A slow pace movie like 2001 would be boring to them.

There should be no dispute that "They" possess enough intelligence and power to have pulled off this rescue in a more direct, less risky manner.

So as not to be misunderstood, completely. I still liked the movie.

You shouldn't let it get to you when someone doesn't like something you like. Everyone has a right to an opinion. It's hard for me to get into older movies with special effects. That's just my preference.

It doesn't really have anything to do with liking it. I don't particularly like Citizen Kane very much, but I respect the hell out of it and understand its greatness and place in the pantheon of film history. I would never say it's boring and/or sucks

ETA: I don't want to derail the Interstellar discussion though, so agree to disagree. .

I have nothing against people who like it. I don't like it and the reason is because I think it's boring. I'm sorry if that offends you.

You called it rubbish which was what I initially responded to. That's the comment that I was so shocked by.
