Or if when they took off on the rocket you could tell from the ground falling away

Did they say what the coordinates were?

There wasn't Yankee stadium or sky scrapers everywhere either so that logic rules New York out

I was actually thinking it was in New York but outside of the city.

This is kind of what I mean by they didn't explain enough. Not necessarily the philosophy behind it all, but the basic stuff. Like where were they? How many people were left? Was that the last town on earth? Where were the rest of the people? What kind of condition was the rest of the world in? Just my opinion.

I really didn't need all of these details. And it being "Anytown USA" opens it up to be accessible by audiences anywhere.

If they wanted to set it in New York I think that they would've used more than the Yankees as a reference.

I'm thinking more on the lines that they moved up the Hudson to farm, and MM's farm is within sight of the brown elevation.

Plus, Cooper, presumably familiar with the area he lived in and near - would have looked at the map, and a former NASA pilot himself would have said, "Oh, $hit - this is NASA!" before even driving out there.

It's obvious they moved to that location about the time Cooper left (or not long thereafter) for security and to get out of the public eye - I don't want to overthink it, but it wouldn't be a stretch to suggest this facility was not very far from a major NASA facility - but, that could be Maryland, Florida, Texas, California, Ohio, Alabama, etc.

Ohio would make sense. You would think being close to the great lakes would be a priority for all the farmers.

NORAD and NASA are two entirely different animals. It's why they hid NASA at the site of an abandoned Minuteman silo. Those silos are located in the midwest.

Also: Dust Bowl = American midwest.

Also: Wheat farmers turned corn farmers... very few in the New York state area. That's midwest as well.

If that's the case, then I'm betting the film takes place in Ohio.

Nolan goes out of his way to de-emphasize the state of the earth other than "very bad, it's going to die". I think it was a smart choice. The film obviously had a very personal message to it; and $1 billion+ worldwide blockbusters, that can get people thinking about real issues, don't grow on trees.

By providing so few details on earth, it was a tactical decision as not to alienate the audience.

(Minuteman, anyway) and Big Sky Country - North Dakota(technically Midwest), Montana and Wyoming.

Other facilities were located primarily Midwestern and Western states of South Dakota, Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska.

For whatever reason, I got a Nebraska vibe the entire time they were on the farm - although the mountain shots would suggest it is in another state, or near a state line with a more mountainous region.

I'm completely cool with Nolan leaving us in the dark on some things. We can only assume what we don't know and I appreciate movies like this for the most part.

The visuals were jaw-dropping on 70mm IMAX. I really wish every had access to one of those theaters, because that's how Nolan intended the movie to be seen.

Would have loved to experience this.

I was more then fine with this.

This wasn't a world view type movie. It was meant to be felt on a personal level. Each of us could have been Cooper as he tried to save his family and then the world.

The bigger picture was completely unnecessary to their plight.

The situation was dire...that's all we as an audience needed to know.

If I wanted to nitpick I'd complain about them not showing Cooper training for the flight (so glad that they didn't) and their moving a NASA production and launch site to a populated area with no one noticing and Murph deciding to build her life around the people that took her father from her...

But I'd rather just enjoy the movie.

Was the world in such bad shape that Coop had to leave in such short notice? Another few weeks or even months with his family would have been irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Me questioning the movie doesn't mean I like it any less, it's just fun to assume and wonder. This thread rocks.
