Me too. This blu-ray would make a great coaster as well

I do like the idea of showing how other countries would have noticed the wormhole and probably sent people through it as well
but other than that, yeah, that script sounds awful

Let's talk about casting - Hathaway is going to be 32 on Wednesday, but I still think she plays a little young - a consequence of her early roles and how young she was when she hit the public consciousness.
And she's getting beat up a little by the critics over the love speech - I thought it was fine - maybe even better than fine.
MM was an exceptional, if not obvious choice, for Cooper - Gordon "Gordo" Cooper was one of the Mercury 7 astronauts - and, in hindsight, I can't help but think that maybe the first act(prologue?) was an homage to "The Right Stuff" - his dream about the crash echoes Yeager's part of that story, and the rural, daresay "agrarian" atmosphere that stands out in much of that film about experimental spaceflight and NASA.
Imagine if a less likeable Hugh Jackman or unlikeable SOB Christian Bale had been cast - as examples. Just using past leads that Nolan has used - Guy Pearce could probably have pulled off likeable family man, ex-pilot, but couldn't have sold southern farmer, IMHO.
Chastain was solid, but not spectacular (which is getting to be her forte) - Affleck was alright. I think the acting lived up to the writing and both were exceptional. Anyone can throw money at a script and get a high-energy, action-filled big budget movie - the casting decisions and acting for this type of film were solid or better.

That makes more sense. Sorry for the confusion.

I thought the casting was fine. The only one I did not like was Damon.
and did I see wrong, but when they showed the picture of Dr. Mann on the wall in the NASA boardroom, was he not an old Asian guy?
cause I could have sworn they showed an old Asian guy as Dr. Mann.

No, that was someone else. I looked for this on the second viewing. They point to him but the shot is kept wide on purpose.

I like the Damon casting. That may be because I think Damon is a douche and Dr. Mann was also a douche.
It worked perfectly.

When I walked out the theater, a guy in front of me goes. "fricking Matt Damon"(in the context of "he's such as a-hole)

but they all acted like he was this great guy before, almost heroic leader
and then he is just this chubby, whiny voiced guy that doesn't look like he could lead HS boys into the girls lockeroom, much less a bunch of people into deep outerspace on suicide missions.

Yeah - I'm not sure what was going on there - they shot it wide, kept in non-specific - they could have been keeping it semi-quiet so the audience would be surprised - honestly - I'd been trying to avoid spoilers, so all I knew was from the trailers - I got MM, Caine, and "Is that Ann Hathaway with short hair?" - and that's all I knew about the cast.
So, maybe he wasn't cast when they did those shots. Of course, they could have fixed it with a close cut, later, and made it feel seemless - I'm going with - Nolan wanted to keep the choice of Matt Damon as secret as possible to at least some of the audience - that's my gut instinct.

Would have been great if, instead of that long winded speech about surviving blah blah, Damon would have just said "how you like them apples?" after cracking cooper's helmet and then walked away

He should have used a term that was cool back in whatever year he left that either is not cool anymore or now slang turn it into something totally different

There are two kinds of people that are put in his type of situation: Those that say they are able to make the ultimate sacrifice and then lose their courage when they face the challenge and those who have the courage to make that sacrifice.
He talked the talk, but couldn't walk the walk.
His years spent alone may have caused him to crack.

Damon may not have realized the reason for his casting until he saw the audience reaction to his demise.

Yea, so, I thought this movie was pretty lame.
