I also liked when they got back from the water world and ol boy was like "I've been waiting 25 years" or whatever the exact quote was. That must have sucked so bad

Like Brand, Dr. Mann was simply doing what he thought was necessary to preserve the future of the human race.

That doesn't make him any less of a douche.

Murph is essentially telling Cooper to go start life over. There's nothing but the past and pain here for you, and you already sacrificed enough.

Thank you. Precisely. It isn't difficult to understand. She is an old and wise woman who has seen many things in her lifetime. She understood that (1) her dad had in his heart an unquenchable thirst to explore, to pioneer, to be at the edge and (2) that they had nothing in common anymore, that she had grown old without him, and that all that she needed to do before she died was tell him that she love him and that she understood why he did what he did and that she had her blessing (as another poster said) for having done what he did. It was vitally important to both of them to have that moment. It did not need to be long, it only needed to be shared. Afterward, she had her family to comfort her and share in their grief. She didn't want Coop to deal with that. He had already dealt with too much.

I agree 100%. It was an emotional goodbye from the start, and all they both needed was closure and that's what they got with that scene.

33 pages of discussion on a 4 day old movie should be enough of a reason to go check it out. It's a great movie.

And yet he was in much better shape than Luke Graham. How long was Luke up there?

They cut the embarrassing scene where Hathaway's character asks him why all of her underwear is stretched out of shape.

What's with it being such a secret? The wife was watching an Ellen episode and she said his name which was bleeped out.

They were pushing humor from the start, and this was the cherry on top.

So we have talked alot about the "Mission" part of the movie. This is what I thought of the pre mission section.

I thought they did a good job of giving you the current landscape, never really blatantly stating random facts for the audience. Here is the world they live in, it sucks, I hope you like corn. I thought revealing the baseball team was the Yankees was a nice touch. Every scene in this section seemed to have a purpose; it all either pushed the story forward or laid out the current status of humanity. I'm up in the air about the whole 'tom' portion of the story line. I think he may serve as a representation of the people on earth who won't give up on the current way of thinking and move on with society. I ask myself, what the movie would be like if we took him out and really I'm not sure it would change much.

Stuff we learned about this world from this portion. I'm sure im missing a bunch.
Set roughly 50-60 years into the future?
Corn is pretty much only crop left
Tons of people have died(unclear how many, but makes it sound like a substantial portion)
Growing food is the only concern, governments spend all their money solving this problem
Government dictates schooling and probably lots of other aspects of life(I thought going with no military instead of the usually played out military state was an interesting point of view)
