You thought that looked good?

Yes.

It wasn't Gravity quality.

Looked terrible in the trailers, but, as I said, so did Interstellar in the recent ones. Didn't see Gravity as nothing about it interested me.

And I agree with you about the sound being either mixed or pumped too loud. Will have to wait for blu-ray or whatever to confirm if is the score itself or presentation that's responsible.

I can usually ask my wife if I did not hear something. She did not know either. I might have heard 1 word of Cain's dying speech.

has the second docking scene been discussed?

because that was, by far, my favorite scene

the score during that scene was amazing, and when Matt Damon blew up, that scared the shite out of me

That was probably my favorite scene as well and I don't think I took a breath the entire time.

Oh...that's because the IMAX theater was louder than a jet engine. You probably thought you were blowing up

Apparently, not being able to hear the dialog over the music and sound effects was an issue all over the country

I had no problem hearing the dialogue

I think the only dialogue I had trouble understanding was Michael Cain when he was dying

I can't recall a time when the sound drowned out the dialogue.

More homage to 2001 - the docking scene was a much more frantic and dangerous of the "waltz" dock in Earth orbit in 2001 (famously copied/referenced by video games ever since) - and Mann's act of accidental suicide echoes HAL's murder of Frank, attempted murder of Dave and Dave's forced reentry.

Really brilliant homage of those moments, IMHO.

Anyone talk about Cooper's yell when the wave hit them on the water planet?!

"Yeeearrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhuuuurrrrrr!!!"

Funniest movie yell I've heard in years

Why did they crash Coop in the beginning of the movie?

so... hilariously, i had had a lot to drink when i saw it in Houma Thursday night and went to pee after the Avengers trailer and got back as he was waking up from the crash.

Last night, back home, when i went with friends to the movie my wife had a baby shower that was going to run into about 10 minutes of conflict with me getting to the IMAX in time to see the crash. So two attempts and i haven't seen the crash scene.

Technically the "physical world" but yeah. My point was, ultimately, their knowledge allowed them to escape and survive the world (literally) below. Their incomplete journey of knowledge was, at its core, the worst offense. At humanity's core, this who still acted by natural instincts (Mann) were evil.

Yeah I didn't get that.

I saw Mann's issues not in the fact that he was only acting by his natural instincts where were a part of it, but rather he was acting selfishly only looking out for his own existence instead of the existence of others. This selfishness blinded him to things

Again I need to go back and watch more. I think Nolan has a philosophical world view that rubs off in his movies. I don't think he goes in there and says I'm going to be gnostic or something like that. Rather his philosophical world view comes out in his movies.

I think there are a lot of philosophical underpinnings that come out in the movie.

1) Loves role in our lives and in the survival of man kind
2) a survivalist reductionism.
3) problems of educating a world view instead of the truth.

other problems

but I didn't see a very gnostic understanding of the movie.

I guess I saw the movie more in a survival only world view (dr. mann) vs concern for one's fellow man. (Dr. Cooper.)

This was at-least the most basic and fundamental conflict that happened between Dr. Cooper and Dr. Mann. Well at-least on the intellectual level. The same conflict happened between Dr. Brand, and Dr. Cooper.

Also from what I could tell there was a large unpinning of this idea of love and it's impact in our lives I guess you could say. Dr. Cooper wanted to go home out of love to keep the promise he kept. Dr. Cooper sacrificed himself for the sake of man kind. That is an act of love at-least how I define it. Dr. Mann had no apparent love displayed and was selfish and only concerned about his needs. Another way to explain Dr. Mann was that he lied to be rescued, not considering that his actions could put the fate of the human race at risk.

I would put that on IMAX's end not Nolan's end.

I tell you, when the most intense scenes at-least in the space ship were going on, I felt like someone turned on an intense vibrating function on my chair and it wouldn't stop. It was kinda exhausting which was ok but to much. I now want to watch this movie in my own home theater system so I can control Bass and such to enhance the dialogue.
