The rumors about this movie are enough for me to hold off on this movie until all of the rumors are confirmed to be false.
And if it wasn’t made up by them, it pretty clear that there is a group of people who haven’t gotten popular for their anti-woke content, but are now audience captured, so they actually NEED wokeness because they benefit from it to the point they’ll just straight manufacture it. They’re like anti-racists who became popular, influential, etc. and now they need racism so they can take their anti-racist position that they’ve benefited from. And they’ll manufacture it if they need to.
In this case, while Nolan is obviously left or center, he’s definitely more of your classical liberal type who values a lot of things conservative value like tradition (practical effects, film instead of digital, traditional theatrical releases windows, etc), family, order (but not at the trade off of liberty), history, etc. He doesn’t even own a smart phone.
Anyways, it’s why on social media you’ll see a lot of commies and progressives who criticize him, and right now you can see it’s coming from both sides, when it’s likely to just be a normie interpretation accessible to the masses and people will have to conjecture up reasons to be outraged, beyond just substantive issues related to the film itself and the adaptation.

You can use gross total box office, net (gross total box office - reported production costs) profit, or some % above reported production costs.
I don't think this movie will be good but I imagine it has a pretty sizeable profit.

Nolan is clearly just doing the thing where filmmakers go bonkers after their biggest success. I imagine his next movie won't be so off the wall/bad.

Profit. That’s generally what the term making money means.
But then again, as long as it looks pretty, I guess people might show up. Look at Avatar, virtually no impact on the cultural landscape yet it’s raked in a ton of money itself.
