Just finished the first 3. I have an interesting theory on the flash forwards and how it could play a part in the storyline of current events. I wonder if all of this is going to lead to a choice for Midge.

Possible.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was really what happened. I also think the lack of Joel mentions by the kids suggests he’s passed away by that point.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was what actually happened either but I do think the ending is a flash forward of her and Susie getting back together. I would hate to another ASP show end on a down note.

Based on the flash forwards, I think Midge has suffered enough for choosing her career path.

Alex Borstein's lines are sometimes more annoying than funny, but she's been hilarious so far.

I laughed out loud when the spat the tooth at the end of E1.

Not unexpected, but still seems weird how many big subplots seem to be getting wrapped up with quickie scenes.

- Matchmaker ladies shut down by Susie's mob.

- Mei Lin flees to Chicago.

- Lenny walks off through the bright white tunnel, heading for California where he dies IRL.

ETA: for extra foreboding, Muzak in the tunnel is the same tune that ended this scene in S3 E5:

This episode wasn't bad. No futurebacks. The mob finally shows up. Wonder if it's reason for the split between midge and Susie later. Seemed like a transition episode.

Anybody else catch the 1970's LED pinball machine in the 1961 writers' room?

This last episode gave me serious “A Year in the Life” flashbacks. Why does ASP think we want massive time spent on musicals that are so cringe?

That was a nice bit of nostalgia but yet again we have to see her sabotage herself

Does anyone think she is remotely funny?

Your son hears (and probably says) frick more times in a day at school than in either one of those movies. Yes, you have the right to censor as you see fit, but don't kid yourself about what he hears.

Agreed, and this seems to be the biggest complaint of this season. They had material for more seasons but seemed to rush through everything. There are still plots from previous seasons that were never explored.

What happened to L. Roy Dunham? That was a big angle last season, yet we never hear about it again.

Imogene just disappeared, though the actress retired from acting but is purportedly in a few upcoming episodes.

The Jason Alexander/Abe plot - nothing ever happened with that.

It feels like the Palladinos throw so much stuff at you in a frenetic way that they themselves lose track of it.

The snapshots of them in the 80s has been interesting, seeing the kids and how things have turned out piece by piece.

I thought the flash-forwards with Midge were pretty cringe. It’s like they forgot to age her 20 years.

She looks a tad older in the 60 Minutes FF, but when she visited Ethan in Israel she looked like she hadn’t aged a day. Unless it’s some sort of dream sequence, that was a poor job by the makeup team.

The only flash forward I liked was Esther, because that actress did an incredible job of combining both Midge’s and Abe’s mannerisms.

So Joel in jail in a flash forward? Interesting.

Midge the Pirate

It’s a shame Gordon is her boss and a bit of a man whore. I like him.

I didn't think they were cringy at all. Aging is quite variable in different people. I think they aged Midge just fine. I find that a lot of people think when you age someone on screen it should be very dramatic and they should look "old." Midge is someone who cares about her looks. She's not going to be gray. She's going to have style. Her makeup will be good. It was quite reasonable to me.

It was the 60s. LOL! I like him as well. I don't remember if it's been mentioned here, but he is definitely modeled after Johnny Carson, whose show started around then. He was also quite a womanizer. I think every woman in the workplace had to deal with lots of sexual harassment back then. I know it was still pretty blatant when I started my career in the early 80s.

Have y'all seen the video from the Maisel season kickoff event in NYC? There's a super cute dance done to Pink Shoelaces that's choreographed by Marguerite Derrick and based on Nitty Gritty choreography by Bobby Banas done on the Judy Garland show in the 60s. I love the costumes and choreo so much. Now the song is stuck in my head!

I wonder if Joel took the fall for something to get Susie’s mafia guys away from Midge.
