Amazon does not have the rights to those books so I am not sure they can use the Blue Wizards. I could be wrong. But in any case if using those references in UT they arrive in the 3rd age at the same time of the other 3. In PoME they arrive around SA 1600, which is 100 years after this series began.

Interesting, I guess this makes sense, I knew they could not using anything from LOTR, hence they do not have hobbits. But if this is the case then it could not be Gandalf and would have to be Sauron. But the comet thing implies he came from heaven, which makes no sense.
I agree with the previous comment, they have messed up Galadriel's character something bad.

They do have those rights to the books.
quote:
So what did Amazon buy? “We have the rights solely to The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King, the appendices, and The Hobbit,” Payne says. “And that is it.
quote:
We do not have the rights to The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The History of Middle-earth, or any of those other books.” That takes a huge chunk of lore off the table and has left Tolkien fans wondering how this duo plans to tell a Second Age story without access to those materials. “There’s a version of everything we need for the Second Age in the books we have the rights to,” McKay says. “As long as we’re painting within those lines and not egregiously contradicting something we don’t have the rights to, there’s a lot of leeway and room to dramatize and tell some of the best stories that [Tolkien] ever came up with.”
So anything specific to anything else they have to be very careful with.

This is why I do not think it can be Gandalf because it would contradict his history to things they do not have the rights to.

Wait, what? Why are they trying to tell a second age story? Also, they cannot us the term hobbit in their series, is that hobbits do not exist until the book The Hobbit. None of this make any sense.

Oh I think they could be sued for materially changing Galadriel's backstory if this is the case.

Basically this story is based off the appendices in those books where things were mentioned in them and they are now taking liberties to fill in the holes with their own story.

This is a major issue with die hard lore followers. She was already wed to Celeborn in the First Age. They also had a daughter a 1000+ years before the series.

Wrong age for Gandalf to arrive in Middle Earth.

They can’t change events but they sure seem to be ably to change when those events occurre.
The argument against it being Gandalf is that those bugs died, which is ominious.

Lawd, I’m so glad I haven’t started this series.

The bugs died because the sickness caused by Sauron is spreading all over Middle Earth. That's also why the leaf dies when the elf king holds it up.

Yeah but they died right after he did some magic with them.
Stil could be Gandalf

Did you think hundreds of millions LOTR fans wouldn’t tune into a show they have been waiting 6 years for

I imagine you didnt really think this newest screech through very much?
Lord of The Rings has been out for 70 years. Was broken into 3 novels. Tolkien also wrote The Hobbit, which is probably in every school in every country in the English speaking world. Then you have works of lore through several releases.
25 million views in 24 hours puts it amongst the largest opening viewership's in streaming history. Largest ever for Amazon. In terms of BO, that would be a 225 million dollar opening 24 hours.
....And you helped them achieve it, despite your incessant screeching.

With such low viewership numbers, they will never make back the billion dollars they have spent. Spin it however you want, but for this series to make a profit, it would have to engage the entire LOTR fan base for multiple viewings. I doubt serious many will give this more than one view. New line is still making millions off merchandise they sell from Jackson's 20 year old movies. Trust me, Amazon will come no where close to profit on this show.

Aint nobody shilling for Amazon, but to try and frame 25 million viewers in 24 hours as a failure is absurd.
The question will be can it sustain it?
Cause not gonna lie, my fears about inexperienced showrunners definitely came through, cause the first episode in particular felt like an episode that didn't understand pacing and build up. Where the best action happens 15 minutes in and the rest is largely expositional.
Not sure how well a slow burn action fantasy will keep the attention of the instant gratification, binge conditioned viewer
