Is this going to look like a CW swords and sandals show or will it have good production values?

This show stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail.

I can’t wait for the social justice messages and diversity. Maybe there will be transgender black orc.

was just coming here to say the same thing. Is it going to look as cheap as Wheel of Time? That show might as well have been an Infrastructure Bill because I have no idea where 75% of that budget really went.

Considering Amazon spent $465MM on a single season, which (I believe) does not include the rumored $250MM paid to Tolkien’s estate to secure the IP rights, this show better look amazing.

People who bring this up in every damn thread are more annoying than the actual practice.

Newsflash: LOTR has always had a ton of different species and races since the very beginning. Shocking I know.

I'm pretty sure it's among the most expensive shows in TV history. Bezo's wrath will know no bounds if the money was wasted

I would hope so. I choose to remain optimistic.

You would think so... but did you watch The Wheel Of Time also produced by Amazon?

It has me less than optimistic, which is a shame.

At least with LotR they have a solid blueprint to reference. Will they choose to follow it?

ETA: And by blueprint I don't mean just the literature. The other highly successful production.

I wouldn’t be shocked if the reason WoT is produced the way it is, is because they’re putting all of their eggs in the LoTR basket.

Personally, I expect at least The Witcher standard production. If not it’ll be a major disappointment.

God I hope so.

Then maybe a few episodes in some of you Politards won’t watch and we can have some decent show threads again.

There was a lot of money put into WoT. But every episode you were thinking "Where did all the money go?" Production wasnt THAT bad, and there were a few scenic parts that looked really good, but they wasted a lot of money somewhere.

You would hope it to be close to the LOTR movies (I fully expect it not to be lol) and much better than The Witcher. I think the three movies cost a similar amount in production and if the show is 8 episodes, there wont be a ton of difference in run time.

But tons of money doesnt always mean quality obviously. The Hobbit movies cost over 100 million more than the LOTR movies but it was much worse in production value. Especially looking back. They used way way too much CGI that didnt look that great at the time and really doesnt look good now. Orcs in costumes and makeup > CGI Orcs. Especially if they are talking.

I would love for this show to knock it out of the park, but i'm not going to get my hopes up.
