The Hobbit was not Peter Jackson’s fault for the most part. There were multiple studios involved that all wanted to to have their input. PJ was basically forced to take over after Guillermo Del Toro suddenly left. I’m surprised they weren’t worse.
Look up A Long Expected Autopsy. It’s basically a documentary on all the crap that went wrong during the making of those movies.

I mean Tolkien does describe Harfoots as being of darker skin. Its not that far of a stretch to have some black and there's nothing wrong with that. No sense in getting upset over a show that will mainly be white people having some black and Asain people in it. Its not like they are going to be having black elves.
The bad part of that is Hobbits being in the 2nd age. Which already tells us that they are majorly breaking from cannon and. I guess if they are indigenous they are going to be early on and probably don't have a major story line. But that seems to be a "Hey look! Hobbits! I know them" addition. Hopefully.
I'm going to stop reading articles on this prior to release because I might get mad, just like I was telling the other dude not too.
But im definitely keeping my expectations low so I can give up on the show early on if they boot it up and just not care about it instead of complaining.

When and how they were created is unknown. Tolkien specifically says so. He also said they’re a branch of the human race. So maybe hobbits could have existed in the second age. But probably not the way we know them in the third age.
There are so many gaps that could be filled, so you know they will take some liberties.

Yeah I have no expectations about this currently. Hopefully they do a good job with it, but I'm not sure why I would think Amazon is capable of that.

If I recall correctly, when amazon purchased the rights to this from the Tolkien estate, part of the deal is (as in its written in the contract..) the series cannot deviate from what has already been published. So its in Amazon's contractural best interests to only "flesh out" the parts which are not specifically addressed...
Of course there is plenty of room for that fleshing out because of the nature of what is published. But the point I am making is Amazon is bound be contract not change anything which has already been published.

Del Toro was going to do the Hobbit, and backed out. Jackson hurriedly stepped in because he didn't trust anyone else.
1st installment (Unexpected Journey) was decent (ignoring the Radagast bullshite and the heavy CGI fight in the Misty Mountains). The other 2 were shite.
Shouldn't have been 3 movies (Jackson wanted 2, bowed to studio).
