I doubt anyone involved in the show has actually read anything by Tolkien, or if they have, they believe they know better.

I don't understand how WoT can bitch about LOTR taking funds; didn't they have separate budgets? My guess is, this (LOTR) has the bigger budget to begin with, and perhaps they spent more time and effort developing the scope and style. And when WoT producers got a look at what they were making, got pissy and started making excuses.

I enjoy watching a wide range of movies with different cultures, but when it looks like they are checking boxes it comes off as cheap. "2 Asian actors...check, 3 African Americans...check, 5 women....check, 6 males 4 white, 1 gay....check". Just stick to the source material.
