Been lucky to have attended a number of world premieres but not sure I've ever heard as much clapping during a movie as I did tonight at #TheLionKing . Was like being at a rock concert. Movie is going to make so much money.

A few other things on #TheLionKing
The visual effects/animation in the film is INCREDIBLE.
For the first time in maybe my entire life as the movie started I got really emotional. Just hearing the music wrecked me.
While it's a story you know, it's soooooo well done.

#TheLionKing is a breathtaking visual cinematic achievement. I can’t believe this is a CG animated movie. Timon and Pumbaa steal the show. It’s a good Disney remake but was it necessary? Maybe not, but it’s enjoyable and families are gonna love it.

#TheLionKing: Better than I thought it’d be! I still really miss the exaggerated emotions of the characters from the original, but you get occasional flashes in this, and the vocal performances are largely good enough to make up for the rest. Eichner & Rogen steal the movie.

#TheLionKing is exactly as advertised: a beat-for-beat remake of the original. Impressive animation and some ace casting choices (Beyoncé is a spirited Nala, John Oliver is an ideal Zazu) plus that music is still - but it’s more nostalgic rehash than fresh reimagining

Holy smokes, I really loved THE LION KING. I think (I think) it’s the most beautiful effects movie I’ve seen. Like next level, the game has changed kind of thing. (For the record I’m agnostic on the original movie and have zero nostalgia for it. Anyway, this movie hooked me.)

#TheLionKing is visually immaculate & a game-changer for visual effects. It’s absolutely stunning in every way. The music shines (Glover & Beyoncé take it to another level), the performances are great (Timon, Pumbaa & Scar steal many scenes) & the emotions run HIGH. Truly great

#TheLionKing might be the first animated movie to win the same Oscar twice. Favreau nailed it. Great voice cast. Eichner, Rogen & Oliver steal their scenes. Beautiful visuals. Two paws up.

The Lion King is a wonderful adaptation of an iconic classic. It has a few small changes which enhance what was already great and everything else is right on point. The CG can be slightly distracting at times but the emotion quickly covers that. Loved it.

It’s the ONLY Disney remake that looks good and that I will consider seeing.

Going to see it.

I don't think I can handle Mufasa dying in CGI, though.

Will definitely take my pee break during Mufasa’s death, not going to spend my Thursday night wiping up tears.

And whoever decided to cast John Oliver as a pompous blowhard who gives “news” that no one cares about is a genius.

yep.

at this point, there is really no reason to doubt Jon Favreau. Can't wait for his Star Wars series.

On the nostalgia scale, this movie is about a 100 out of 10. It is hard to take any positive reviews seriously because of this unless the review actually goes into detail about the story/acting/etc.

Scott Mendelson isn't that impressed

@ScottMendelson

#TheLionKing has stunning visual effects/animation, but it's in service of a pointless retread that seems to exist mostly to show you how they got it right the first time. It's as over-written as ALADDIN but without the charismatic humans to entertain you. Lions can't act.

quote:

Scott Mendelson @ScottMendelson

The entire thing is seemingly "like the 1994 toon, but less" as in less emotion, less "acting," less melodrama and less theatricality (less jazz hands). It's worth seeing once for the visuals, but you'll never pick it to watch again over the original.

yea im a fan of him. Watch his new show experiment The Chef Show. He basically wanted to continue to cook with his Chef mentor that trained him for the movie, and he just got a crew to film them. and it spun into a show where they go to restaurants and talk to the chefs then cook a big meal for the restaurant employees.

I watched a trailer for this two days ago and the voiceovers are horrendous compared to the original.

James Earl Jones is still tGOAT though.

Its super hard to take the initial reactions from "preferred" critics on Disney movies. Disney has complete control over the reviews at this point.
