5. Evidently all someone has to do to keep gas running to your home is to crash the gate at the gas distribution center and turn a valve?
6. Bill has run his generator continually for 20 years? Where is all the fuel coming from? Any fuel that is 20 years old has long since gone bad. Joel and Tess aren't carrying that much fuel to him for trade.

Most generators that size can run on natural gas with the right setup. Your answer to 6 is 5. Natural gas doesn't go bad like gasoline. Now, I can't really answer 5. There would only be so much product remaining in that pressurized line.

Now, for 6, the question should be the truck. That gasoline would be varnish in the fuel pickup.

You're trying way too hard to be edgy, chief.

1. Why hide the rifle in the gas station? Joel says he is hiding it because there isn't a lot of ammo for it out there. But isn't he going to the place to meet the one guy that either might have plenty of ammo for it or might trade for the rifle? I get he may not want the extra weight, but why take the risk that you wouldn't need it? (I am just going to assume this is a case of Checkov's gun and that it will appear as needed later)

I think you’re reading too far into it - the scene was meant to illustrate 1) that there’s no point carrying dead weight and 2) that ammunition is scarce. Both were pretty key gameplay limitations in TLOU.

I would note that at this point, I don’t believe he has fully made the decision to bring Ellie across the country. He’s still planning to see if Bill/Frank can figure out wtf to do with her.

It’s also possible that Bill had exhausted his supply of 5.56 over the 20 years since the outbreak, which might explain his use of a hunting rifle in that one scene. But I think that’s a bit of a stretch for a prepper like him.

2. Are we to understand that Bill is the one "survivalist" who keeps all his stuff in the largest house in a small town? He doesn't have a remote hideaway?

I think they implied at one point that it was his mom’s house. Was that the house he walked out of after the FEDRA round up?

No reason to carry the extra weight if it’s not needed, from what it seems this was on the outskirts of Bill’s town meaning that there was minimal chance at running into any large problems. It’s also likely that Bill didn’t have ammo for Joel’s rifle or that he wasn’t willing to trade at that time. The gas station had been picked clean meaning that it’d be a good place to hide a weapon

Could it also be that it was the "small gun" that Frank gave Joel and Tess? I could see Joel not wanting to flaunt it.

In my current play through, in what will be episode 4, Joel has no problem carrying, running around with, climbing with: 2 pistols, a shotgun, a bow and arrow, 3 first aid kits, 3 Molotov cocktails, 3 bombs, a 2x4, some shivs, and a brick.

The series is INTENDED to EXPAND upon the game.

No it wasn't. An expansion pack expands upon the game. This show is supposed to be a retelling of the story. They can certainly take reasonable license. But to cram in meaningless sideline characters' (one of whom wasn't actually even in the game really - being already dead) background plots that are irrelevant to the story, plot, and any part of how any of that plays out, is just a waste of creative energy that could have been focused towards advancing the story line. They've wasted an episode and any number of opportunites to provide some truly related interesting source material.

imagine thinking you know how the show is supposed to be better than the guy who created the game/developed the show

Didn't Joel take that rifle from the dead soldier/guard as he was leaving the QZ?

thought it was a good episode and change up from the game.

little bit of the gay part was cringey buuuuutttt

the end of the episode set up the theme of the rest of the series pretty well.

Protect the ones that need to be saved.

You are fully stocked, must be playing on the easiest level.

I thought it was a decent episode. I think it would be better if I hadn't played the video game so many times. I can see it as a stand alone story, but they pull dialogue straight from the game, like word for word. So it's hard to separate them.

I am this time. I’m just playing through quickly to see the story again. There have been a couple of times where I dreaded what was coming, and it was easy.

I really wish they had tried to incorporate Joel hanging upside down in Bill’s trap while Ellie is being attacked. That was such a frightening scene in the game.

Mentioned this yesterday, would have been a really cool scene for the show. One of the most tense moments in the game.

Maybe it'll be added to a different part of the story.

I was also wondering if it was in the show but I missed it when I skipped through.

I find it very nerve wracking pretty much every time Ellie goes ahead to open a gate or get a ladder or something. That was such a great build up in the game.

So instead of watching Ron Swanson, Joel and Ellie be chased around a school gymnasium by a bloater we get an hour of a gay love story that doesn't adhere to the game whatsoever and doesn't forward the narrative at all.

Imagine thinking these people actually care how good their product is and don’t prioritize their political views first lol.
