Is that what happens in the game? Would have been far more entertaining.

For those of us that played and still loved it, i think it’s the problem.

Bill being gay was in the game, but it was a throwaway worthless single moment in the game. But they decided to make it 1/9 of a season and critics told us it was amazing.

ETA: I’m leaving the comment there but worthless was probably too harsh. My apologies. It just wasn’t a big deal or didn’t add to the story overall. It’s like if they decided to throw an entire episode behind Renly and Sir Loras’ meeting and back story. It was in the book, but it was maybe 3 to 4 paragraphs or a chapter at most of the entire work.

I’m assuming. Even if it’s self imposed. He was going to blow a gasket around RoP time. Not good for a young man to be that unhinged.

I’m on his side on most issues, I just try not to let myself get that worked up over it.

Must be. I haven't seen any comments from him in a while. Can't remember last time I saw one.

Simply "being gay" isn't really the problem with this episode though, as you pointed out.

This makes it much worse. I assumed it was at least somewhat explored in the game.

Then again, exploring these types of things makes barely any sense in an apocalypse. At this point, it's more about repopulation than about "let's find love."

Instead, we get a 70 minute flashback that solely exists to push a homosexual relationship.

No idea what point this served to the story. You don't need an episode to get across, "here are some guns brah!"

Meanwhile, shows that have a decent storyline (Snowpiercer for one) get canceled, and we get this dreck.

When they are gathering supplies at the end they take 2 rolls of TP. Come on evidently Covid worse than a Fungus that destroyed civilization.

I think the reality is that the show had to diverge like this at some point to tell stories about relatively unimportant characters

Could have accomplished this with Ish.

We need another 80 minute episode to expand on how tp is still being made.

Came to see people melt about a gay relationship being shown. Sure enough, I was not disappointed.

I thought the relationship went on a bit too long. But the payoff was great.

The show was always going to have to expand on the backstory of characters at some point. Otherwise it would be a hour of sneaking around and looking for ladders every week. I wasn’t a huge fan of the backstory of the relationship but the way it tied together was pretty good.

If you're going to do an episode on two people, shouldn't they live past that single episode? I mean, it's not five seasons into Walking Dead where you delve into someone's past that you've seen for multiple episodes (if not for two or three seasons.)

TWD and FTWD both got kinda soft in the last three seasons, but the characters already had us invested, so we paid attention when there were weird one-off jags that didn't seem to fit with the overall story arc. That's not where we are with TLOU. I may come back to it after the season closes if they develop a coherent story that is interesting, but to see the actors do this stuff is painful.

how do they have gasoline?

He would need to fill the whole back of the truck up with gas cans for a cross-country trip. Are there gas stations on the way? Doesn't seem like there's refineries other than what the military has.

It’s predictable how easily some here get triggered. I’ll say this I actually like how they flipped the symbolism of Bill’s character in the game he was supposed to be an example of what Joel may become if he doesn’t open up to others such as Ellie. The letter Bill left Joel will certainly have an impact on Joel later on including the ending in the hospital.

Problem is, they did a 180-degree rewrite from the game to do it. Absolutely none of this happens (that we're ever aware of) and the ending is a literal polar opposite of what actually takes place in the game.

Could have done an episode like this with Ish, a character that is basically storyboarded already in the game and has a better story than what we just watched. I won't spoil details of Ish's story in the slim chance the show actually delves into it, but it does everything this episode purportedly does and it's an incredibly more devastating ending vs 2 old twinks ODing in bed together after an evening of dressing up and fine dining.

We all know why this got retconned.
