I bet this was the cheapest episode for them to film, by far.
Only if they're re-using all those houses and sets in future episodes.

I agree that the acting and overall visuals of the show were top notch. Both actors deserve tons of praise.
That being said, the episode was cheap, literally. I feel like HBO said “the game said they were gay and we never see them again so let’s change everything else cause it won’t matter”.
Feel like we could’ve had flashbacks to the relationship while Ellie, Joel, and Bill made they’re way through town searching for the battery ie similar to Black Sails. Different areas bring back memories for Bill which would culminate to the school where Frank got bit and lead into the house where he died. This could’ve also helped build the relationship between Joel and Ellie as they overcome obstacles including the bickering between Bill and Ellie.
I get the argument the letter to Joel might serve as a way to help him open up and change his ways, but the source material could’ve done that just as well. All Bill had was Frank and he failed to protect him after their relationship failed. All Joel has is Ellie and he doesn’t want to make the same mistake and wind up like Bill.
Idk, just feel like we missed out on so much since the showrunners wanted to go a different route and probably save some money on this episode.

Naughty Dog literally won a GLAAD award for Bill being gay give it up baw he gay.
Yes, GLAAD has traditionally been desperate to give any game an award for even he smallest hint of gayness.

what's it like to live in the level of denial you live in? is ignorance truly bliss?

Also, this episode taught me that despite being a survivalist, Bill doesn't feel the need to use cover in a fire fight
My wife was like "WHY WAS HE STANDING IN THE STREET???"
It's like they consulted with literally no one for that scene.

What I stated is obviously correct and should be obvious to anyone who has been gaming for a long time. "Representation" is still mostly nonexistent in video games because gamers aren't interested.

How much do you think the facades of some houses and like two decorated sets cost?

Dunno, but building all of that for just one episode isn't "cheap." They also had flamethrowers (or something to that effect), pyrotechnics, and some gun play (which I imagine is more expensive immediately following Alec Baldwin's manslaughter).

All of that is comparatively very cheap.
No real vfx, sfx, elaborate set design, locations, limited number of actors.
The “bottle episode” isn’t exactly a new concept.

Ellie literally steals a gay porno from Bill, it’s pretty damn obvious

So, you keep shitting up the non-gamer thread....
In the game, we get exactly 3 possible references to Bill being gay:
1. Bill states, "Once upon a time I had someone I cared about. It was a partner. Somebody I had to look after. And in this world that sort of shite's good for one thing: gettin' ya killed. So, you know what I did? I wisened the frick up. And I realized it's gotta be just me."
2. Ellie finds gay porn among Bill's belongings, obviously the most compelling evidence.
3. Bill is visibly, albeit briefly, shaken upon discovering Frank's body swinging from the rafters of a house in a nearby neighborhood.
We can reasonably infer Bill's gay with the totality of references, although it's never explicitly stated. Further, we get nothing implying Frank is gay. Only way to conclude that is to infer some serious conclusions from an unreliable source (Bill, who we already know lied about how he and Frank went their separate ways). Lastly, we really have to reach to infer Bill and Frank had a romantic relationship of any kind. Instead, we learn Frank hates Bill's guts so much, he preferred getting infected and dying instead of spending another day with Bill. How romantic.
And on top of all of that, literally nothing in the last episode occurs in the game and Bill & Frank have a completely different ending.
So, fkn stop with the bullshite. Stop pretending Druckmann saying something outside the game means it happened in the game. He could say Tommy is a cross-dresser and has drag queen story hour with the children of Jackson for all I care. It didn't happen in the game, so stating or implying such is pure social credit scoring, nothing more.
Sure, they could have had Bill & Frank be in a relationship and it doesn't retcon the game. But they knew they couldn't have a gay relationship crash and burn with one saying he hates the other. Plus, if they had explored Ish's story, it would have accomplished the exact same thing without a gay relationship. Neil wanted his social credits, so instead of telling a story that already exists, he retconned Bill & Frank. Are you more embarrassed or insulted to be pandered to like this?
For supposed learned TLOU gamers, some of you leave a lot to be desired. And LOL for muh homophobia. Yeah, I've operated under the notion Bill was gay and Ellie is a lesbian for a decade now, but consider TLOU1 one of my favorite games of all time. What a phobe

That really isn't obvious at all if you think about it for more than 2 seconds.

"Limited number of actors" is the only part of this that is true.

It's totally normal for someone who has to scavenge/trade/hoard things to survive to have all manner of things in his house.

Is it? So there's no possibility a gay mag just happened to be somewhere without the occupant being gay, especially in a post-apocalyptic world where shite is strewn everywhere. Do you know the difference between inference and obvious? Because you don't seem to know.

Also, no inverted shootout with swarms of infected in Bill's garage.
One of the cooler intense moments in the game. Not really a big deal that this was left out, but it would have been a fun scene.

Did Joel load up on weapons/ammo in the bunker? Why in the world wouldn't he? Maybe we find out next ep?
Seemed like he was just leaving it all. I know the girl grabbed that pistol from the mail drawer but thats all we were shown.

idk man the way he interacted with Frank ("he's the only one who would wear that shirt") and the note Frank left reading like there had been a lovers quarrel, combined with the gay porno mag; it wasn't outright stated but we can say it was very heavily implied he was in more than a platonic relationship with Frank.
