I wonder how they will handle the show without Alex? Will they just replace him? Anyone know?
I had no idea about the allegations until after the episode. I thought his death was handled a little too quickly and cleanly and now I know why.

Apparently they brought Cas Anvar back to film his death.

Another football board I'm on has consensus that this was their favorite season.

Seems like the Expanse was great in Seasons 1-4 because it stayed away from PC and SJW nonsense. Then all the sudden they went fullbore SJW in Season 5 focusing so much on Naomi and the Belters. Don’t even get me started on Holden scolding Bull not to say “skinnies” again. Hopefully they return to their roots and finish on a high note for Season 6.

A Hodor here who just finished season 5.
I waited to read any of this thread until after.
I agree with a lot of what has already been said.
- The Naomi/Marcos/Philip scenes got old quick.
- Naomi's "Cast Away" story line also got old. So old that towards the end I was hoping she'd die. And yeah, is SOS/Morse Code not a thing anymore?
- Philip and Marcos are written so strangely that I kept expecting them to just go ahead and frick.
= MAN, I wish it would have been Drummer that took out Karal. She was truly detestable.
- Amos is GOAT. He is SO matter of fact, emotionless, cold, practical, robotic. The actor nails it.
- Bobbie is probably my favorite. I'm not even in to girls with her body type, more of a skinny girl fan, but hot damn she's a dime. The actress is just so likeable and relatable. Any time she puts on that Goliath suit, it moves.
- It sucks to see Alex gone. I had no idea about the actor being a skeeze. I wish they would have shown a little bit more of what lead to his stroke. Was it the final burn to get to Naomi? Or a burn that was part of the maneuver to rescue her once there?
- For book readers: how long are the books? I'm a pretty voracious reader but don't have the time I used to for it. Maybe Audible is the way to go? I'm struggling through the 3rd Stormlight Archive (Brandon Sanderson) book on Audible now and could totally put it on hold.
I got in to the series on a friend's recommendation and didn't really give it the respect it deserves. Now I want to go back and rewatch from the beginning.

The books are all 500-600 pages I think

Yeah? What a d-bag, huh? Guy gets canned from an awesome show for some sketchy stuff and does them a solid by coming back to film his character's send off scene.
Has this ever happened ? I can't remember hearing anything like that.

Gotta out that work in to repair his image to get any future work down the line.

Where are you seeing that?
It seemed to me like the exact opposite. The only speaking line he has in the death scene is him saying something like “what a ride” (I don’t remember the exact words) over the radio, off screen. Then they show him with blood droplets floating around, which could have been done entirely in post.

Well amazon did buy it around that time.

I think I've misread something. I can't find anything that indicates Cas came back to film his death, but I did find an interview with the show runner that intimates they wanted to kill someone in season 5 anyway, so believe that if you will.
In the book, Fred Johnson does die by stroking out during a hard burn, it was just in book 6.

Was Fred Johnson a pilot? Didn’t think so. I guess in the world of the Expanse, being a pilot and doing these hard burns is part of the risk they take. It just seems to me that somebody who doesn’t do them very often and his body is not acclimated to such physical demands would be more likely to stroke out. Just nitpicking though.

I really think this angle got more attention because it was cheaper. This was an easy storyline to play up that takes place almost entirely onboard ships and didn't need much CGI. I don't doubt there were SJW issues in play but costs probably made that decision process a little easier.

I don't get the SJW angle, either.
In the SJW world, the OPA and Free Navy would be the "good" guys because they're oppressed and fighting against the man who has enslaved them.
Instead, they made Marco Inaros, and most of his crew, absolutely despicable. They made Filip despicable.
I understand that you all don't like Naomi and the storyline. It's not my favorite, either, but I don't see some liberal leftist agenda in the storyline. The "antifa" group are villains through and through in this season. One of the things the books do that salvages Naomi is showing what an absolutely genius she is at figuring out ANYTHING that's engineering related. You see her persistence in working through the fake distress call on the show, but you don't get to see the various super genius level things she does to hack it like you do in the books.
Also: the other football board I'm on that didn't hate the season is a KC Chiefs and leans heavily conservative politically.... so no... not some liberal board.

I think under normal circumstances, Bull would properly be admonished as Holden is dating Naomi. But as Fred Johnson had just been murdered, Tycho Station had been shot up, and several million people had been murdered on Earth... I think there's some justification for a bit of bad name calling.
The only other SJW moment which may register w/ me is the prepper who Amos and Peaches encountered. Of course he was gonna screw them over and leave them for dead... ( again, if I'm wrong and that's how the book version goes, so be it. )

I agree, but maybe they need to find a new derogatory term as it’s not like they just cast skinnies as belters. Though maybe Cyn just identified as a belter.

I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I'd guess people that are trained for and are well accustomed to high G maneuvers handle them better, but there's always a risk for ANYBODY to stroke out. High G also affects older people more, hence why Fred died.
As far as the show is concerned, this is pseudo science. I think at one point, Alex claims the Roci hit 22 G's chasing after Eros in the show. That's just stupid. The highest they hit at any point in the books through 6 is 12 G's or so.

I am not usually an Audible guy. I prefer to read my own books rather than have someone else read me a story.
But reading the Shallan chapters just suck. They go on and on, and drag the story to a halt.
So I got the audible version and have it on when I'm doing things around the house or driving.
I've read most everything Sanderson has written, and love most of it. But this one is not keeping my attention.
