Wtf is with the weird pointless bumps by new posters today?
it's a way to try to covertly stir up shite.
find a thread that upset some people years ago, bump it, and watch a whole bunch more people get angry all over again.

quote:Those were the times back then, on the heels of the civil rights movement I think and all. You could make jokes about the races and no one would erupt like they do today, I was a small kid in the 70's. I actually prefer those days than this era with all of the anger, hostility, racism, terrorism and all. Sammy laughed because he was making money, but he laughed and played along with it too. Sammy had a relationship with Kim Novak that was highly publicized because she was a beautiful young White woman who was a star in Hollywood at that time. Sammy was in love with her and wanted to marry her, but had to stop seeing her when he was threatened with losing his other eye by Novak's mgr. who had Mafia type figures working for him I think.
White people taking shots at black people in humor and vice versa would actually be a good sign of mutual acceptance and understanding. It's wild how many don't understand that
Needless to say and sadly Novak's career went downhill, and the poor woman to this day just insists that her and Sammy were just friends even though she admitted to being in love with him. She was totally afraid because of those times.

You could actually enjoy life back then and not be called racist for any reason. Life was simpler and more enjoyable and less riots and looting and hating of whitie
Yeah back when actual racism was just accepted. WTF? We are definitely overly focused on race today but this statement is just ignorant. The fact that this has 49 upvotes to 10 down votes is even crazier.

That fact should cause you to wonder if your perspective on this is at fault. You seem to be missing the point

Fukin snowflake. That was Hollywood golden era. There will never be another.

The n-bomb was dropped in numerous shows in the 70s (Sanford & Son, All In The Family, Good Times, The Jeffersons, hell...WKRP) and the world kept spinning and people didn't completely lose their goddamned minds.
Of course, there was also a little movie called Blazing Saddles.
The world has regressed.

This was just low effort and sad - by today's standards.
So 50-60 years ago they were supposed to be catering to standards that didn’t exist? It’s almost like things evolved over time. Maybe the jokes seem low effort because they are now played out

There are still racist jokes. You can always be assured that a black comedian will have jokes about white people. No one objects.
Turn it the other way, and a white comedian gets vilified and his/her career is over.

The Russian troll farm must be back online to bump all controversial topics and get everyone pissed off at each other.

Pussies like you are what's wrong with the world today. If you don't like certain comedy, how about you shut the frick up and let other people enjoy it.
Go hide in your safe space where comedy doesn't exist and everyone is overly sensitive to each other's feelings.

You're the one who's triggered by some random guy on the internet with a different opinion, dumbass.

You created a thread about how triggered you were by a comedy roast dated decades ago.

Not sure, but I do kind of enjoy them when it's a thread I knew I posted in, and when I go back and reread what I wrote I still 100% agree.
I like it when I’m scrolling down and read a solid, thought provoking post that I want to reply to, before realizing I’d be replying to myself in the past.

This is exactly the over-sensitive-especially-on-someone-else's-behalf mindset that's pushed our society to the point where someone is considered a female just because he puts on a dress and/or has his dick cut off, hollowed out, inverted and then crammed backwards inside him to create a faux-gina.
Go ignorantly whine elsewhere.

this thread seems haunted or something. are those year apart first post bumps part of some mystery? what is this thread hiding?

I always heard Dean Martin was the king of cool. However, in these roasts, he is quite visibly drunk. But not a "cool drunk", an "unprofessional" sort of drunk.
was part of the act, more time than not he was drinking apple juice
Posted on 4/4/22 at 4:52 pm to ELVIS U
According to guys like Jerry Lewis, when Dean was working he did not drink. The Vegas stuff was all shtick as was the stuff on his TV show. He was an Apple juice and iced tea guy. However as the years went on his drinking did increase and it really accelerated after his son died in a plane crash which devastated him.
Jerry Lewis had made the comment after he heard about Dino ( the son) death. "That killed Dean, he loved that kid" after that Dean was a regular 4 cocktail at lunch kind of guy.

Nor was Dean a party-all-night guy like Sinatra. Dean enjoyed morning rounds of golf.
