What bothered me most about the new movies was Finn. You had a former storm trooper turn good. If he had the force it would have been more interesting than Mary Sue Rae, instead they wasted him on that Camino Bright sub plot.
Could have had a cool black jedi and no one would be screaming woke.

People were screaming woke about Boyega casting before the movie was even released so this makes no sense.

Yes because i was alive in 2015 and I didn’t see anything about woke when TFA was being developed. In fact was that word even used in the vernacular at the time?

I don't think society was using the term woke back then like we do now, but there was definitely controversy. The first teaser that showed him in a stormtroopers uniform had a lot folks pissed off.

I don’t doubt trolls sent him racist crap that’s a tale as old as social media itself. I want to hear about all the backlash about the woke stuff because I certainly don’t remember that at all.

Gonna derail for a post to recommend Boyega’s first movie, Attack the Block. Streaming on Prime and Hulu. You’ll probably need subtitles because they aren’t speaking the King’s English. It’s a stoner comedy mixed with an alien invasion.

The only other thing I can remember was Rey being called a Mary Sue. But TFA was very positively received. It's crazy how much things have changed.

they were complaining about black and female main characters, white male villain, that's the same thing as the woke stuff now, just didn't use woke terminology.

So no examples just anecdotes. Why would these Star Wars nerds hate black people and women? Do you know any fan who dislikes Lando or Leia? The only argument afterwards I heard was about Rey as a Mary sue and people mad that Finn was made a janitor.

The story is always affected by the diversity casting. The female leads almost all stink because of unwritten rules set in place for the strong female character trope. Gay characters have the same problems. Race can be much less of an issue as far as castingunless you are talking about just nonsensical things like demanding so many ethnic characters in a story about feudal era Japan. But when a characters race becomes the focus like having the new Captain America have to preach racial injustice because he is black, it goes straight to making the story less.
