However, in the subsequent season, the show began to show signs of bloat: increased runtimes and growing plotlines. Now, in Season 3, the show’s supplementary characters have all become the stars of their own shows. “‘Ted Lasso’ is no longer a workplace sitcom but a universe of workplace sitcoms, drifting from a football club to an upstart PR firm to another (more evil) football club to a pair of local restaurants. Scenes are devoid of jokes and filled with dopey, self-important monologuing on the issues of the day. Rather than have any conflict, characters offer endless hugs and wan smiles, all under the watchful mustache of Mr. Lasso, whose retinue of dad jokes feels noticeably phoned in,” Sims argues. ? ? “The show isn’t incapable of being insightful, even in its latest, most pretentious form,” Sims continues. “But it has stopped being as funny, which for me was its primary reason for existing.”?

All this may be true, but some of the time time those plotlines are legitimately heartwarming instead of cringe, and that's just rare on TV these days. And I like all these characters, even Nate. It'll never be season 1, but I'll take Ted Lasso for the feels as long as I can. It's just different and I'll continue to appreciate it for what it is.

All of this. Well said.

Remember in Wayne’s World when Alice Cooper had a whole scene talking about Cleveland’s commerce? That was the joke.

It was Milwaukee. It’s Algonquin for “the good land.”

Man. If we were running a drinking game on this thread focused on every time "the feels" was invoked, we'd all be dead by page 5 I suspect.

Then Ted being Ted revealing he holds no hard feelings for what he did.

He’s literally done this the entire time. At every point. Since the beginning. There’s no pay off or reveal or character arc there.

Them making Ted a caricature of pleasantries was great when they wanted to make this a hallmark card of a show. But to switch up and start these long and winding story arcs without changing the characters at all makes it a bit flat.

The one thing is though is that Ted is the only one who saw how emotionally broken Nate was in that end scene in the lockerroom, so he knows at least some of the why for his actions even if they still were wrong. Everyone else just saw him being a dick.

Geeeeezzzzz. What happened to this show. Massive fall off from feel good positive to preachy SJW bull shite. It’s just lazy. It’s like they have a checklist every show to make sure they do a gay storyline, preachy moment about how it’s 2023 and we should all accept it, one liners that are close to the “family guy” level and then maybe 2 scenes that are actually funny with Roy.

Another show ruined by political agendas.

But I really don’t see it that way.

I see the Keeley thing sort of like another poster’s wife. How y’all didn’t see it coming is a mystery to me. Keeley is trying to be someone she wants to be (not the sexy it girl), but old Keeley pretty much dealt with everything on a shallow level. She was easily swayed by money and power and used sex as currency to get those things. She just fell back to her old ways. Thru the internet hacks with her video, we see her realizing again, that’s not who she wants to be. I think she’s actually not even truly bi. She just always used sex and is having to learn there are better ways. Shandy helped her see that.

The Sam political thing…he only posted because his friend and partner talked him into it. Then, like so many people, he got sucked into that internet interaction, never thinking about what it could cause. I loved the scenes with his dad. It counterbalanced other dad scenes we’ve had, like the ones with Jamie. Sam’s dad was wise and led him thru a hard realization (he’s a star, so what he says and does matters).

BTW, did anyone else notice how Jamie loved Amsterdam and talked about when his dad and then his mom took him there? Those were some of the few good memories with his parents.

I’m not sure why everyone seems to think Ted will/should learn soccer. Ted was never a good coach of anything. He’s a good motivator and leader, but not an actual technical coach. She hired him because he was bad!

All of their jealousy is weird. None of them could have been shocked that Keely has a sex video out there. She was a model, she had done nude work. She probably sent Roy sex tapesZ You got the idea that Roy and Keely both knew the other one had some mileage, I mean She dated Jamie season 1. So it doesn’t make sense that the existence of this tape shocks them.

They aren’t shocked. This video was a private one she made and sent to Jamie. Roy is only jealous because he knows it wasn’t made for him and guesses that she made it for Jamie.

The reality is that in this day and age sex videos and photos sent to a partner are probably really common. It’s what happens after you break up with them that’s important. This was never about her “mileage.” It was about how Jamie and Roy treated her after they broke up.

Same here. I like that it's heartwarming and has its funny moments. It's just enjoyable to watch. I think this is the last season, which seems like a good call. Could run its course and get a little exhausting kind of like Keely's storyline already is.

My daughter came home from college and wanted to start watching. Kinda enjoying rewatching season 1. Catching some things I missed or just seeing things a little differently. I kinda forgot or just haven’t thought about Rebecca wanting them to fail in the beginning and that’s why she hired Ted.

Can't wait for this episode to come out and this thread to start with genuine reaction to the episode from people who enjoy the show what it is, followed shortly by a mob mentality from everyone else shitting on the show's politics.

It's been the cycle for the last month.

Honestly I thought this season sucked. It was simply pushing BS narratives about sexuality and race. Ted is dealing with his mental health which would have been a great story line, but they just kind of quit after a few episodes on that topic and go on to the alphabet gang.

Nate had a chance to be a fun and cool villian and that never developed. The very obvious Zlatan like character was cool, but then he leaves for no reason. It was just a choppy season
