I'm not declaring myself as any Superman fanboy. Yes, I did enjoy the Donner film(s), for what they were. Christopher Reeve is the holotype for Superman on screen. And by all accounts, Corenswet does the part justice. He and Cavill are great.

And yes, the contrived fan baiting on what "MAGA" thinks is being over hyped.

But even if the movie does well, there seems to be a mixed bag of reviews, I know it could have been much better. And I also can guess as to why it wasn't.

Huh? Mixed bag? It’s got 85% on RT and every reaction I’ve seen from fans is positive. Watch the John campea twitter reaction watch—all positive from what I saw

Small complaints like too much going on are fair but it’s a good movie

Agree with this

It's a much more faithful take on Superman than any of Snyder's vision. Superman isn't meant to be brooding and tortured. He's more Moses than Jesus. He's a big blue boy scout that just trying to do the right thing with inherent optimism and goodness. Gunn captured that in spades. Corenswet nailed it too.

Plus, this is a really good summer popcorn movie that the entire family can enjoy. There was only one overt, and imo gratuitous/traumatic act of violence that Lex commits that would be unsuitable for under 13.

Once again, a “meh, it’s ok” is considered “Fresh” on RT.
quote:

On Rotten Tomatoes, a "Fresh" rating for a movie or TV show indicates that 60% or more of the critics' reviews are positive. This means a "Fresh" rating generally signifies a good or acceptable level of quality based on critical reception, according to Rotten Tomatoes. However, it doesn't necessarily mean a movie is "great" or "perfect"; it simply means it's more liked than disliked by critics.

He was going through twitter reading other people’s reviews. Not his own

I just heard this was a good movie. Closer to Guardians of the Galaxy in tone.

Where does it rank compared to other Superman movies?

You mean after Superman right?

The OG is still the best.

Superman II is much better than Superman, imo.

I'm tired of super hero movies (outside of the new Batman stuff) but I did want to see this in theatres because I'm one of the few that still enjoy going to the movies. Then the trailer came out, and I was thinking I was going to skip it because honestly that final trailer was pretty bad.

But the reviews/ratings are better than I expected, might end up going to the theatre.

the common note from all the reviews is that it is a Gunn Style Movie.

Lots of comedy

And how people feel about that is basically the how the score goes.

Pending seeing Superman this weekend, and not including any of the animated versions (Death of Superman/Reign of Supermen is incredible), the rankings since 1978 are:

Superman (78 - OG)
Superman 2
Superman & Lois
Smallville
Man of Steel
Superman Returns
Lois & Clark
Superman 3
Superman 4

its worth seeing on the big screen - recommend IMAX if you can, it was filmed for IMAX and worked well

Agree with your rankings, might have Smallville above Superman & Lois but its close

I'd rank Superman 2025 right below Superman 1978 after seeing it last night

It's a real coin flip.

Smallville is solid and essentially ushered in the Arrowverse and similar TV superhero fare.

But, damn, Superman & Lois is so damned good and it absolutely stuck the landing in its 4th Season.

It is, but, it would be hard for me to have Smallville on the list just because it is a Clark Kent story, not a Superman story. I'm torn because I love Smallville so I don't know. Good list.
