Thinking about rewatching season 1
I forgot about so much like for instance Eleven spying on the soviets

They put a new 30 second trailer out for episode 8 and 9

Pretty sure that's the same stuff that was at the end of the last episode. I skipped it. I can't stand TV and movie trailers anymore. They give away entirely too much

I think the Russian guard who helps hopper is the man who is nobody from game of thrones

What I'm more concerned about is how a plastic bag keeps a flashlight from 1986 from shorting out at the bottom of a lake, and how anyone could see anything at the bottom of a lake at night, even with a shitty 80's flashlight.
This is a show where people are passing back and forth between dimensions and you're zeroing in on a damn flashlight as a problem?
When you watch Die Hard do you sit there w/your arms crossed as McClain is evading an exploding building top and helicopter shrapnel w/a fire hose as well?

Will might as well not be in the show post S1
Will is basically Doug from The Hangover movies. Serves no purpose outside of being the reason the rest of the characters are involved in the shite they are involved in.

Just my theory, but I think that the upside down being seemingly frozen in time of fall of 1983 is because it didn't even exist until 011 raged on 001 and created a rip in space-time.
A good theory. However, this doesn't account for the fact that One was cast into the Upside Down by Eleven in 1979 - four years prior to Will being pulled into the Upside Down.
Wait Im confused. Are you discounting the whole thing due to the time issue or just the "frozen in time" part.
It seemed very clear that 011 clapping 001's cheeks created the original rift.

The surveillance video Brenner pulls out in Ep. 7 is dated 09-8-1979

it's not like 001/Vecna just hit the upside down running. It's plausible that he would have taken a few years to coalesce his power/reach by 1983, thus freezing Hawkins there.

True, but Prawn’s theory was that the Upside Down is frozen in 1983 because that’s when El blasted 001 through the portal. From the dates we know that happened in 1979.
We don’t know why the Upside Down is still (frozen or otherwise) in 1983 other than the date in Nancy’s journal is the day Will disappeared and (I believe) Barb was killed.

He’s purpose is to be homo for Mike

Just watched Vol. 1 and read the entire thread.
Getting to the point that 001 might be 11s dad. I think this could actually be the case. I re-watched episode 7 and when 001 has 11 lifted up in the air and is about to snap her into 347 pieces, she goes to a flashback of being born. The first person she sees is Brenner, then her mother. So that lends me to believe that she was born at the lab. Couple that with 001 saying earlier that Brenner "tried to recreate me" and I think its pretty likely that this is the case.

That's true for the later seasons, but I don't think so for season one.
I loved in season one that he wasn't just a frightened bunny when the weird shite first starts happening. His instinct is to run to the shed and get his air rifle. THAT's the kind of think I always daydreamed I'd do when I was his age. I'd sit in class, or church, and have these incredible daydream adventures where shite would go down and I would have to react to save the day.
I liked that even in the Upside down, he wasn't completely helpless. He figured out how to communicate with his mom.
But this season he's really just been a lump.

Surprised this hasn't been brought up again since page 7, but in addition to the things you mention, when Hopper is telling his personal story to Enzo, Hopper says something like, "all kids hate their fathers at some point" which seems like another nod to 001 being 011's dad.
ETA: This is another reason why I think Vecna gets a redemption arc in the final season.

And the night Nancy loses her virginity to Steve, per her diary.

Thought this was pretty much confirmed? Doesn't 1 say that they used his DNA to recreate the rest of them? And I doubt the dude gets a redemption arc.he was pretty unhinged before 11 sent him to the upside down. And as a little boy he killed his parents and sister.he doesn't really have anything to redeem. He's evil.

I think the way the redemption arc would work is that it's revealed the Mind Flayer has been controlling him and manipulating him since he was a little kid. If the Mind Flayer is the big bad and recruited Vecna to be his general ever since he was a little boy, then Vecna's love of spiders would make sense since Mind Flayer has been depicted as a giant spider-like creature. So the redemption would be that Vecna breaks free from the Mind Flayer's control and helps defeat the Mind Flayer.

I dont Think he says that directly. I think He says something like since they couldn’t co tell me they decided to copy me.
But again, it’s very possible he’s her dad.
