True, but Prawn’s theory was that the Upside Down is frozen in 1983 because that’s when El blasted 001 through the portal. From the dates we know that happened in 1979. We don’t know why the Upside Down is still (frozen or otherwise) in 1983 other than the date in Nancy’s journal is the day Will disappeared and (I believe) Barb was killed.
It's the date 011 made contact with the demogorgon (and presumably the mindflayer by default) which allowed it/them to follow her into Hawkins.
I'm still gathering together my thoughts about where I think they may be going with everything, but a couple observations/suspicions of mine:
Upside Down Hawkins as a physical place that we see frozen in time and overgrown with decay and tentacles etc. is not the same as the red lightning storm plane of existence that 001 was expelled to by 011. I don't see any other way for the series to maintain logical consistency because otherwise 001 should have be in an Upside Down lab rainbow room rather than floating in some kind of elemental chaos.
Not to get too far off into the weeds with nerdy stuff, but in D&D there is Shadowfell which is an echo plane of the material world and is more or less the equivalent of the Stranger Things Upside Down. But there are also others like the elemental planes, the far realm, and ethereal plane among others and I suspect Strangers Things will end up having more in its cosmology than simply material world and Upside Down.

Yea he doesnt say they used his DNA, he just says they tried to recreate him. Whatever that might mean.

which seems like another nod to 001 being 011's dad.
001 was pretty protective of her going after those bullies.

Has it been explained why this season, people can be in the upside down for long periods of time with no negative effects while in season 1, the air was lethally toxic if exposed to it for a short amount of time without a mask?
And how they managed to swim with wooden paddles to the bottom of the lake?

I don't get into the details or speculations of what's next. I just watch and enjoy what is there.
BUT the wooden paddles did have me a bit confused.

On the paddles again. Did they even dive in the water with them? I don't think they did. It was just odd.
These are all very valid criticisms of this season...I'm not sure why you were shite on.
The season didn't really feel like Stranger things to me. It had a very different vibe and atmosphere, up until maybe the last episode or 2. There seemed to be several "speeches" given, like the Jock at the pep rally and at the town hall, that were just stupid.
The Robin character was annoying and insufferable. Her lines are awful. For instance, after they kill the bats in the upside down and decide to head for the woods..."Oh great, we have to run again?". Is that supposed to be comic relief? Why would she say that at that point?
I wasn't a big fan of the villain either at first as it just didn't seem to fit along with the villains of past seasons...BUT...I feel like what they did in episode 7 was pretty outstanding in explaining his origins. I was ready to write this season off as possibly the worst until the last two episodes, which redeemed it.

Everyone looks much older than the ages they're meant to portray. Will is awkward and entirely unlikable. Why wouldn't he stand-up for Jane?!
The mean girl and the doped-up metal-head are such ham-fisted caricatures.
The story is extremely derivative of A Nightmare on Elm Street, well past the point of homage.
The handsome jock being given the floor at the pep rally and cutting an uninterrupted WWE promo was ridiculous. That never happens.
So much of the extra run time of these episodes feels like unnecessary padding. We needed to see Joyce try and fail to crack a porcelain doll?
Anyways, I hear things pick-up near the end, so I'll keep on trucking.

I took that to be a nod towards Satanic Panic and left it at that.

I thought they picked up the paddles from the ground from a sunken boat in the Upside Down's drained lake?

That could explain it. Or the boat that they used to paddle out in the lake was also in the upside down and they grabbed the paddles from there.

They did, which should have been very obvious to anyone actually paying attention. Guy is writing these long, critical posts and missing incredibly obvious details.

I just finished this season the other day, and I enjoyed this one so much more than seasons 2 & 3. I was basically over the show by the end of season 3, and I only started this season because I needed something, and I thought it was the final season. Lol. But yeah, it was a good time.

If they did, it happened off screen and you are making an assumption. Other people had the same question. So how is it obvious?

I wasn't being critical about the paddles. Was just asking a question. You can resume sniffing your own farts, douche.

This is the best season since season 1.

I agree with you, but let's not kid ourselves about seasons 2 and 3.
I enjoyed 3 but wasn't a big fan of 2. Like I said, Episode 7 of season 4 really brings it home and may be the best episode of the entire series.

So much for hype dying down because of the wait

Robin sucks. Easily the worst character.

I don't mind her, but I might be fooled by her impressive rack. The fact that her mom is Uma Thurman likely helps the genes.

I didn't know until a few weeks ago that Robin is the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. I thought her incessant "nervous talking" got very annoying at times although she's an ok character.

She sounds exactly like Uma Thurman. Watch the scenes with Uma in Pulp Fiction when she's talking to Vincent and Mya Hawke sounds exactly like her.
