How much money is this one going to lose?

It's getting difficult to keep track of all these bombs

What is the point of justifying the actions of every single kids movie villain for the last two decades?

Fairy tales were a thing because kids needed to be made aware of evil in the world.

Obfuscating the fact that evil exists is an evil act itself.

They had some success with the Descendant movies, so they have to make sure they squeeze every penny out of the concept?

I mean, they made someone who skins people's pets into a hero. This seems like a lot easier sell.

Shrek did have a bad attitude and lived in filth. Anti-social. Unhygienic.

Welcome to the party.

The point is to continue the war against objective truth and to make kids learn that any point of view, any action is completely valid. The ends justify the means and all.

1. Shrek wasn't really taking an already conceived story and "subverting your expectations." The king was clearly bad. Shrek was clearly good. Yes it used pieces of fairytales, but it played with them. I will say, it's success probably started this trend, or opened the door, but it was a different thing and on its own.

2. One movie, in isolation, isn't a trend, the point of the reaction is that Hollywood is doing this everywhere. Any POV just needs to be understood. There is no evil in the world. It's ridiculous.

This take on Cinderella has actually been done before in the novel “Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister” and the recent movie “The Ugly Stepsister.” Even Disney did it with their 2015 live action version of Cinderella. One of the sisters was mean and nasty and the other one wasn’t. It seems like villains getting the “Wicked” treatment is the way to go these days.

That said, some of the best villains are ones who are understandable in their actions and are sympathetic to some degree.

Don't bother. He's being a f*g.

He is insinuating this board is basically Stormfront.

That is pure Reddit-brain.

No arguing with morons like that.

That is the exact kind of poster that would accuse you of transphobia for not dating transies.

Or it's just boring unoriginal writing, there's plenty of stories where the villain comes out as sympathetic or misunderstood that existed long before stuff like this

But sure man grand conspiracy

They should go all in on "Cinderella was really the bad guy." She used magic to trick the prince, after all.

There's a certain type of mindset that makes people want to oppose or tear down anything traditional.

If you take a modern English Literature class and the teacher and students are more consumed by "deconstructing" and criticism of the themes, characters, and author you've encountered this.

It's a substitute for personal creativity and independent thought.
