OT plotlines:
A new hope: a new chance for good to win
Empire strikes back: evil fights back and wins
Return of the Jedi: Redemption and balance to good

NT plotlines:
Phantom menace: Evil gets a new chance
Attack of the clones: good fights back and wins
Return of the sith: evil is redeemed and balance is to evil

3rd trilogy plotlines:
TFA: a new chance for good to win
TLJ: evil fights back and wins
ROS: good is redeemed and balance is to good

Secondary plotlines for 3 trilogy:
TFA: a chance for the past to be remembered and cherished
TLJ: the “new” fights back against the old and wins, making it look like the past is doomed
ROS: the past is redeemed and balance is achieved between new and old

I understand some want to see this movie because it's basically the funeral procession for Star Wars after Rian Johnson killed it.

That's the feel I get from this.

It's going to a funeral because you have to go to funerals and you hope JJ Abrams delivers a good eulogy that helps you remember the good times.

But is anyone actually excited about this movie? I can't even bring myself to commit to watching it at home one day much less seeing it in a theater.

go to the movies and pay to see it? nah.
I know i'm not. I'll watch a shitty torrent of it at home, and if i like it, i might download a good version of it when it comes out on blu ray to put on my plex server. TLJ is not on my plex server, despite the fact that i have almost 1000 movies on it.

Yes. They are putting loads of updated ship assets into that shot. They’ve got the Ghost, Sphyrna-Class (hammerhead), Nebulon-B, and Dornian Gunships that were updated from Rebel’s model library for Rogue One’s battle. As well as the CR-90 already shown in other shots. They also made an updated model fo Ketsu’s ship and Wookiee gunships from Rebels.

They also seems to have created a variation of Mon Calamari ship based on the Profundity MC-75 capital ship from Rogue
One. Possibly some copies of that ship model. A U-Wing as well.

Then you have at least one model ripped directly from Clone Wars and updated to live action: Pelta-Class frigate. There are a couple of them scattered about. One is behind the Falcon. There may be some variation of a Zygerrian slaver’s ship in there as well.

Then of course there are reused assets from TFA and TLJ, like the resistance ships and a few of those giant freighters like Han Solo had the Rathtars in.

There are lots of new things that seem to combine Corellian ship assets into newer ships. There are also some other new bulb shaped ships.

They really dug around their CG libraries for this one.

She should’ve had her “farewell” in the TLJ. They had the perfect opportunity to do it.

How Leia, not Luke, was given so much focus in this new trilogy is remarkable.

This movie will "demystify" the Unknown Regions.

It will kill the only thing I still love about Star Wars, the weird shtt we have going on with the Unknown Regions. Mostly Legends/EU, but some intriguing Canon with recent novels Empire's End and Thrawn/Alliances.
