The only three advanced "force" related things Rey got into that I remember were 1) Mind related (stormtrooper/interrogation) 2) Calling lightsaber 3) Lightsaber battle
1) She saw it was possible and then she tried it. For a clearly powerful person, natural ability can make up for refinement of technique. Not unreasonable that after multiple tries it happens
2) Exact same thing that Luke Skywalker did in Empire Strikes back with minimal to no training on it. The real stupid thing is that the guy who stops lasers mid air not only can't get it but loses out to a amateur. Don't care about injury
3) Kylo Ren was shot by Chewbacca and his actual lightsaber training level is never clear. His "training" isn't finished by Luke obviously and Snoke pointed out it wasn't finished by him either. Rey clearly has some skills wielding a melee weapon and she starts focusing on the force, not unrealistic that the person who is bleeding out already has a hard time

Obi-Wan Kenobi descendent maybe?

My husband's theory is that Rey and Kylo Ren are twins and she was taken from Han and Leia.
Why or how she was taken, dunno. That was what he said as soon as we walked out the theater. But we know twins run in the family so I guess it wouldn't be completely inconceivable.

I don't want Rey to be Luke's daughter either. It would be a weak explanation.

At first when Kylo Ren takes off the helmet, I'm all "What's with the damn nose?" And how gawky and awkward he looks. But it works. He's awkward because he's in a transition with a lot of conflicted feelings and had to make a choice.
He's badass, competent, and prone to throwing a hissy fit.
It's so nice to be able to talk about a good Star Wars movie. Never been able to do that in my lifetime.

I thought the subtext of the film made it quite clear that she's a Skywalker.
Maz's statements to Rey in the basement of the castle were probably the most revealing - "That was Luke Skywalker's lightsaber, and his father's before that. Now, it calls to you."

He probably took the "Hans the father you wish you had" thing too literally.
Plus if they lost another child, Han and Leia would've probably said something about it. That's just a redundant storyline. They need to try and seperate from the SW plot lines as much as they can from this point on without losing the feel of SWs
No more Death Stars, no more "omg he's your father!", etc etc. they've washed the bad taste of the prequels out of everyone's mouth, now go make your own story

No more Death Stars

i'm thinking Rey was part of the original students of Luke. After the attack, she was evacuated to Jakku and had her memories erased or suppressed. Through the course of the movie she begins to recall a few force abilities, which she uses. She's obviously gifted, so there's a possibility she's related to someone powerful. I don't believe she is Ren's brother as Han and Leia never mention having a daughter. Could she be related to Luke? Maybe. I wouldn't hate it, but would like to them move away from familiar story arcs that we've seen previously.

They threw in the Death Star so quickly and made so many jokes about it that I thought it was going to be a redirect. Like "oh look we just have to do the exact same thing...OH WAIT, that was just a decoy for something else"
But no they really just went for the whole "ITS BIGGER NOW"
The probably impending family guy spoof barely needs updating

Good points.
Also keep in mind that the force had become unbalanced once again. Luke had basically departed, and was no longer the counter balance to the dark side. I took the force "awakening" in Rey as the force trying to add the balance itself since Luke was out of the picture. That is why his lightsaber was "calling" for Rey (which is also probably why it went to her instead of Kylo).

Since Kylo seems to be an Oedipus character, anybody think he's gonna bang Leia in the next one and cut his eyes out in the third?
Just a theory but I think it's gonna happen.

Some people's expectations are just never going to be met. I thought Abrams did a fantastic job with TFA. I thought Ren swinging his saber around like a little child was a silly moment only to watch Abrams slowly reveal that he is not the badass Sith we've expected out of any Star Wars movie. I thought it was a nice touch to see a very raw apprentice on the dark side as well. He didn't overplay any of the jokes to hackery. For instance, Han Solo making the trash compactor comment was perfectly laid out. That is 100% something a jackass like Han would never forgive and want to do to a stormtrooper. He pretty much rebooted A New Hope. What the hell are all the whiny bitches in this thread saying he should have done with the story? I don't see solutions. Just a bunch of crying.
The ONLY thing I wish we had seen (even though it doesn't necessarily make sense to the storyline) was Luke pulling the lightsaber out of her hand and instantly activating it when she held it out to him going to credits. It was just set up so perfectly. The audience would have gone fricking bananas.

was how quickly Rey grasped the Force with zero training.
It wasn't an accident.

Lightsaber fighting isn't about how good you are with a sword, it's about how you use the force to help you anticipate and influence your moves. That precedent is set when Luke is having to deflect the floating ball with the helmet covering his eyes.
Rey just became more in tune with the force quicker after she touched Luke's lightsaber and went through that trial/revelation scene. The force AWAKENED in her. We haven't seen that happen before and that's why a lot of people aren't accepting it. Because we learned something new about the force that wasn't established before this movie.

Did anyone else think Poe looked exactly like a young Robert Knepper?

I already forgot about what Maz had said. I think that seals it for me.
Which leads to the theory that Luke has a wife that was murdered by Kylo when he turns to the dark and splits from Luke. Also heavily adds to the pain Han & Leia would feel for their son's actions.
Congrats to JJ Abrams for successfully overseeing a reboot to the series without a reboot. No mention of anything the fans hated from the prequels, the "force" was redefined back to the original vision.
At first I was also disappointed with the Williams score. But after some thought, the score heavily used themes from the original trilogy. No "duel of the fates" theme. That was done to again distance this from the prequels. That is great writing. Well Done.

Funny . I did, for some reason, think Kylo and Rey had some chemistry. Her and Finn had no sexual chemistry though - and she put him in the "friend" zone before leaving to find Luke.
I liked Finn's character, but how does he switch allegiances so fast? He did mention it was his first real battle, right? Anyone else think Luke was controlling things from afar?
