Caught the 9 am showing today. I really enjoyed it. I thought they did an excellent job at capturing the feel and spirit of the original trilogy. The only thing that bothered me....and I'm sure it's been converted in this thread but I haven't gone through all the pages....was how quickly Rey grasped the Force with zero training.

was how quickly Rey grasped the Force with zero training.
The problem is that we don't know if this was just a plot device to move things along quicker or if there's an actual reason that gives her the abilities so quickly... which could be revealed later
It could be as simple as her confidence/belief in herself and the force or maybe something a little more complex about her past.

Training is a means to the end. The end is peace of mind and lack of fear. When you watch it again. Watch how Rey develops in those departments. She starts off fearful but embraces the force and channels the force without fear. She also is able to learn from Kylo. Monkey see monkey do.

Yeah. I was thinking to myself that it would probably be revealed in the next movie. I'm assuming her genealogy has made her strong with the Force.

I like the theory about her getting her mind erased a little
But it would suck to have it explained as "oh well she's a sky walker" or not at all

Maybe she isn't a Skywalker at all... Maybe she's related to Snoke?

Everyone's touting off her as Luke's daughter as fact.
Just please don't make Finn and Lando related. Not every damn character should be from the same damn bloodline it twist story arc

I won't dwell on the Rey issue. The movie was so fun. Really had a feeling the prequels were sorely lacking.
I did go in a bit irritated, however. I made it a point to stay away from any potential spoilers via leaked images or message board speculation. I watched only the trailers and read nothing else. I even stayed away from checking out the toys for fear of spoilers. Then a co-worker of mine texted me this morning and asked me to let him know how the movie is after I saw it. He said he didn't want any spoilers except that he wanted to know if they killed off Han!! There's no way he would have known about that without reading spoilers or at least speculation online. So I watched the entire thing basically waiting for them to kill Han off. It was pretty obvious once they were at the point of setting it up.

Anyone half paying attention to the production of the movie would know it as atleast a possibility that he would die
He's old, not a huge fan of the character, and broke his leg in production

Not to mention the fact that Ford pushed so hard for it back during ROTJ, then afterwards basically ignored Star Wars for all of the years up until this movie was to come out. I bet that was one of the carrots they used to lure Ford back into the franchise.

Okay, so you dicks got my thread deleted. Here are the highlights, to be forever lost among the soiled shorts of other posters.
-pacing was mechanical. the story had no flow
-screenplay felt more like a mathematical equation than a story. very formulaic. JJ is the king of this hackery.
-Adam Driver is a horrible actor, and Ren is one of the most unintentionally comical villains in movie history.
-They didn't give Isaac nearly enough to do
-Harrison Ford is a master craftsman, and played a Han that wasn't a dusted-off iteration of the old Han. He was truly 30 years older and changed by experience. Nicvely done, and my favorite part of the movie.
-Boyega and Ridley were great. I prefer Boyega's range of emotion and what it brought to various scenes, but Ridley was also very affable and made you care about her character.
-Carrie Fisher looks and sounds like Bruce Jenner. It was really uncomfortable to watch.
Because of Star Trek, I had low expectations. This has almost always made a film seem good to me, because I didn't have my hopes up. But, the story was just too formulaic, most of the jokes were corny and many of the references to the OT were forced and ramrodded up the audience's arse.
lastly, I do remember one comment from the now forbidden thread. I told Freaux a while back that just because one can reduce a thing to a formula, after the fact, it doesn't mean that one can take a formula and make something good with it. This movie proves that.

Agreed.
If Rey isn't related to Luke, I wonder how they will explain her abilities.
