Look, I love him, but he's a bit of a goober. His reasoning is that "Rey and Ren have the same ears."

I was like nnnnnoooooo they don't. I watch Girls. That dudes ears are dumbo-esque.

But I agree with you. Seems like something would have been mentioned. Maz saying those things in the basement leads me to think Luke.

I could look this up, but I really don't feel like it since I'm actually having to do work today. When is Ep 8 supposed to come out?

Rey is CLEARLY a Skywalker. The whole damn set of movies revolves around that name. The primary character in every episode is a Skywalker.

Of course she is. At least that is what they wanted everyone to insinuate. That is why they dressed her like Luke was dressed in ANH, and why whats her name said the lightsaber was Luke's, and his father's, and was now calling for her. If she isn't Luke's daughter, then the intent was for everyone to assume that.

At first when Kylo Ren takes off the helmet, I'm all "What's with the damn nose?" And how gawky and awkward he looks. But it works. He's awkward because he's in a transition with a lot of conflicted feelings and had to make a choice.
This is a perfect example of people looking for reasons to avoid thinking that it sucks.

Yeah. It's because childishness and yeah. Yeah.

Wife? maybe. Love interest? More likely. Remember that Jedis weren't supposed to get romantically involved.

She does have the british accent like Kenobi. Grandchild? It's a stretch, especially since it'd be pretty out of character to just now reveal that Kenobi broke the Order's ban on taking a wife/attachment.

Which leads to the theory that Luke has a wife that was murdered by Kylo when he turns to the dark and splits from Luke. Also heavily adds to the pain Han & Leia would feel for their son's actions.

That would weaken the whole "killing Han solidifying his turn to the dark side" thing

Killing his aunt would be plenty enough of a dark side turn

This was a decree issued by the Jedi Order, which fell out of existence after Episode III.

Luke was never exposed to any of their mandates...nor would he have to abide by them even if he had, considering they no longer exist.

I liked Finn's character, but how does he switch allegiances so fast? He did mention it was his first real battle, right? Anyone else think Luke was controlling things from afar?

He's essentially a slave. Why wouldn't he switch allegiances if he had the balls to?

And the purpose for that decree? Distractions, compromising difficult decisions, and all the other hero cliches.

I'm simply pointing out that it's more likely he had a bastard kid than a kid through marriage.

Just got out. So underwhelmed. So many talking about how fantastic it is. It was decent. Definitely not bad. Action was great. Story is 'meh' so far. It's surprising because I'm not a picky critic. I thought episodes II and III were fantastic.

Also, the one thing the prequels did, without question, to improve on the OT was the lightsaber fighting. It seems Abrams wants to bring it back to beating the lightsabers together until someone gets a hit.

A lot of people don't like Rey being Luke's daughter but I do. I like the Skywalker family line. I think it's a good move but they need to do something different with it. And I think Rian will do that.

One thing that I'm trying to figure out is Ren's worshiping of Vader. Does he worship his grandfather who was both Anakin/Vader? Or is more of a case of just wanting to be a new Darth Vader pre-sacrifice. If he's trying to live up to his grandfather's image surely he know that Vader turned from the Dark Side at the very end. If he "prays" to his grandfather to help him resist the light he must not know or acknowledge Vader turning.

This makes me this that either the final battle was covered up and the Rebels pretended that it was Luke that killed Vader and Palpatine or that Snoke was at least able to convince Kylo Ren that this was how it happened.

Really? From everything I've heard and read thus far, the majority of fans are hoping that Rey is Luke's daughter.

Kenobi was the perfect Jedi. And he believed in everything the Jedi order stood for. If they came back and said he had a wife, well that would be stupid

This is what he wants to avoid. He wants to become more than Vader - he wants to become immune to any vulnerability and susceptibility to the Light (which ultimately brought down Vader).

Killing his father was part of that process.
