‘Star Wars’ fans abandon ship as Disney+ brings on the ‘lesbian space witches’

“Star Wars: The Acolyte,” the eight-part series streaming on Disney+, is being pilloried by fans as a “new low” for Disney, “a queer Marxist vandalization of the myth of Star Wars” and an “embarrassment to the entire franchise.”
Even its defenders acknowledge its woke tilt. Drew Taylor, film critic for TheWrap, called it “arguably the gayest ’Star Wars’ yet by a considerable margin. It’s pretty gay. Let’s be honest.”
quote:
So far the “Star Wars” fandom is carrying the day. The series registered an 84% critics’ rating but an abysmal 14% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes based on more than 10,000 reviews, an all-time low for a “Star Wars” spin-off.
The fan rating was even lower than the 21% notched by the 1978 “Star Wars” TV holiday special, the standard by which all “Star Wars” bombs are judged.
quote:
Those sounding the death knell for the franchise were led by Alan Ng, editor-in-chief of Film Threat, who recalled in his June 5 review that “I became a massive Star Wars fan in 1977” at the age of 10. “I bought this galaxy far, far away, and today I don’t recognize the place anymore. [Creator] Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte managed to put the final nail in the coffin for this fully grown adult. Yes. I accept it. Disney Star Wars is not for me.”
Cosmic Book News reviewer Matt McGloin called “The Acolyte” series “boring, drawn out nonsensical garbage.”
“George Lucas should have never sold Star Wars,” Mr. McGloin wrote. “Bob Iger should have never appointed Kathleen Kennedy as the head of Lucasfilm. Star Wars is a complete joke. Disney is a complete joke. #RIPSTARWARS.”
quote:
“The third episode is flat-out awful, clashing with franchise canon, bluntly pushing culture-war talking points and featuring plot mechanics sure to make your eyes roll,” said Mr. Toto, who hosts the Hollywood in Toto podcast.
Certainly “The Acolyte” isn’t what the faithful expected after Mr. Iger returned to the helm of the struggling company in 2022, declaring that its content creators had “lost sight of what their No. 1 objective needed to be.”
“We have to entertain first. It’s not about messages,” said Mr. Iger in November.

How many threads we gonna have on this?

I think there is plenty with the show itself to criticize.
I don’t think it’s world breaking.

Not fully fully grown, I guess.

It's not happening guys. This is totally normal. Representation is important, necessary. All weird sexual fetishes must be shown to all people, all kids, everywhere. Everyone must be accepting and aware of all sexuality. Always. That's the point of art. To make sure you know, accept, love, and SEE sexual fetishes

@Chicken
Can we get an Acolyte board?

Star Wars fans hate this show so much they just can't stop watching it and talking about it.

I'm legitimately curious why people keep watching... like we're in year 9 of mediocre KK Star Wars and apparently everyone is still watching. Just give it up, it's done; been done.

Its hate watching at this point. Ironically that is the only thing keeping it afloat.

Exactly, so stop fricking watching it. I’m not watching Rings of Power for the same reason.

I gave it one episode, then I saw the interviews given by the nasty female director & the confused star who doesn't know which bathroom to use and they explicitly stated that they felt it wasn't a show for white males who were lifelong SW fans.
It would've been disrespectful to do anything but oblige them.
The Acolyte has done the once-thought impossible - it reaches Star Wars rock bottom (set by The Last Jedi), lands with a thud, and immediately begins digging.

Because outrage is considered cool on social media.
So many people not only want to be mad at something but also want to let random people that they don't even know beyond a screenname just how mad they are.
In turn, it emboldens the Clay Travis' of the world to completely sell out and farm outrage porn because that's what drives the click dollars.
I'm sure there will be many a thesis written on the subject over the next decade.

To all those saying just don't watch, and I'm not sure people who are upset are watching at all - hate watching is not really a thing, and don't talk about...
What do you do? Ignoring it and hoping it will just go away is exactly what got us here.
Thinking star wars would be taken care of by people who care about - is exactly what got us here.

Not me. I have not watched the first episode and do not plan to. I loved the originals and thought the prequels were ok. I loved Clone Wars and liked Rebels. I have watched the other streaming shows and for the most part enjoyed them, but I am done with anything Star Wars related not associated with Favreau and Filoni.

And keep paying for a D+ subscription. Watching and paying, the only two things Disney cares about. They don't care if you're hate watching, you're still supporting them even if it's out of hate.
Cancelled my D+ membership a long time ago. I'm not going to be part of the reason they keep making these awful shows. And I'm not even a Star Wars fan boy, I just don't support crap products.
Though I did log into my brothers account to watch the Jim Henson documentary. Well worth a watch

I think it's a thing. in the Acolyte thread I popped in and said why are yall watching this and one poster responded that he is only watching to hate watch. Same for so many of the YouTubers that get millions of views for their hate watching. They'd rather it suck so they can have more minions watching their videos because hating on it is more fun than enjoying it.

Boycotting it is the only thing I personally know how to do. I'm not going to give them my money and I'm not going to help their streaming numbers. Like I say, they don't care if it's bad, as long as they are collecting money and getting millions of views, that's fine with them. I'm not going to help on either front.

I don't think there was anything fans were able to do once Disney/KK took over the property. All criticism has been dismissed.
The only successful treatment is never watching and never paying for anything those people benefit from.
This is a normal and appropriate response. You just don't eat at restaurants where they spit in your food. Especially not when they call you a bigot if you complain.

Don't just not watch, ignore it completely. Don't post about it on twitter or social media. Just completely ignore it. Netflix uses twitter activity to determine whether to renew a show or not. I'm sure D+ does too.

It's just obviously deliberate sabotage at this point.
Who actually believes KK and her ilk are THAT clueless? I knew they'd go far and if you knew what to look for then you'd easily see the utter nonsense slathered all about, buy it's become a clownish affair at this point. It's hard for me to believe they don't realize how embarrassing this is.
