I don't know anything about Star Wars Rebels.
I'm guessing since an old Obi-Wan is fighting Darth Maul, they pretend the prequels didn't happen?
Also, that was a shitty lightsaber duel.
That quick snippet duel shows the chess game going on in Kenobi's mind. If you go back and look, he goes to his Clone Wars stance and sees what Maul does, then he baits Maul by shifting to the same stance that Qui Gon used to have Maul attack him the same way. He now has a counter that he knows will work so that he can end it quick.

Went for a second viewing with my buddies last night. This movie does have a lot of problems, but I have to admit that I enjoyed it a lot more this time.

My second viewing was better to, mostly because I just didn't pay attention during the entire B-plot besides some of the pretty space battle scenes
When you ignore all of the story and just watch the 15 minutes of action, the movie is a lot better

Halloween III could also be an acceptable title

I'm curious how much Mark Hamill's comments have cost them. I showed the clip to my parents of him saying that it is not his Luke Skywalker, and then they had no desire to see it, so he at least cost them 2 tickets. I'm willing to bet at least a few million.

Look how retarded AMC thinks the audience is:
“Oh my god! 10 seconds of silence! They’re clearly too stupid to keep up with this!”
AMC fricking blows.

Thank God for this thread. I just saw TLJ and had to get it off my chest. I posted below befor I saw the sticky.
I saw the original at 7 yrs old - so I've been there since the beginning - and was pleased with TFA for the most part - even Finn was okay although the potential of a fallen Stormtrooper has been horribly wasted by making him a silly coward. There was a lot of potential with the new characters and I really like the potential of a lady Jedi lead. I even thought the death of Han Solo (my favorite) was meaningful.
To me, for high fantasy to work in movies it has to be taken seriously by the characters and writers. Humor has to be subtle and natural. This was done in ANH and ESB. The Ewoks and Chewys Tarzan yell were bad in RotJ but the rest of the story managed to overcome them. We all know how bad it can get when "wink wink" humor or over the top comic relief jar jar's you out of your willing suspension of disbelief. This is why I really liked Rogue One - even as a side story it broadened the universe and was a serious, sad storyline that meshed well into the universe IMO.
This movie was such a disappointment on so many levels - most mentioned here. To me the biggest is the waste of potential to provide a proper end to classic characters and establish new interesting ones. I actually like Luke's exile. Why keep training Jedi just to have them go to the Dark side? But from that initial concept everything was completely botched.
How much better would a Luke/Rey and Snoke/Ren parallel plot have been? An eventual showdown between the 4? What if Luke would have battled Ren at the end but stayed his hand due to compassion for Leia or due to a plea from Rey - only to be killed due to his hesitation.....maybe as a last ditch effort to save him.
Leia's plot line was as silly as her space walk. The Finn storyline was so completely stupid that it defies words - as was the slow motion space chase. The interesting characters from TFA were made irrelevant or killed off entirely....with new irrelevant characters introduced. Laura Derns character was so disruptive and forced it was jarring. Ackbar was killed unceremoniously and Poe was made to look like a moron.
All that said, I liked the interaction between Rey and Ren - as their rise SHOULD have been the core of the story. Both trained and becoming more powerful. Her taking his hand would've been really interesting. But alas, that and other interesting plot lines that fans on a message board came up with on the fly were far better than what we were given.
And God the political messages in this were over the top. Star Wars should be good vs evil - and the efforts of heros vs villains - in an incredibly interesting universe ripe for interesting characters. This movie fell way short of the mark and tried way to tell us that we don't need heroes - just more women.
Also - the need for back story here is important because there were 6 other movies leading up to this trilogy. The fall of Ben Solo, rise of Snoke, Luke's exile, rise of the First order, WTF happened to the Republic (I could've sworn they won) and the assertion of new Jedi/Sith all beg to be told but we're eventually cast aside to make way for a political message and unceremonious termination of the legacy cast. Except for Leia - the one character that should have met her end for obvious reasons.
Sad.

This is America. You must only hate those who hate others thereby truly hating yourself.

I saw it for the second time today and again I liked the film. It has problems, like almost any movie and especially like most of the Star Wars movies do....but again the incessant whining about how awful it is is at least somewhat unwarranted. It really isn't nearly that bad.

The movie commits the ultimate cardinal sin of cinema in wasting the people’s time. You can remove like an hour and miss nothing.

It is a bit too long. I never thought I would say that about a Star Wars movie....but I get what he was trying to do. He was setting up his new trilogy. It was obvious to me what he was doing with the kids and freeing the creatures, etc.

so you hate women?
Disclaimer: I like this film much better than the first one. And i hope to discuss it in detail. Also, this post should not reflect what i consider to be even the top 10 most interesting/good/notable/bad things about it. I just read that post and had something of substance to say.
Thats not really a fair criticism of his general point. In fact i think the main criticism is he didnt flesh out the problem with all of the women. And it wasnt that they were in the film or the number of them it was their roles in the film.
With your hero being a woman that usually forces most secondary characters to have a less complete arch and a more one-note purpose in the story. This includes the men. So lets go through the men in this movie...
Kylo- hes the main baddie...im ok with him being depicted poorly as thats crucial to the story
Luke- former hero who is now jaded but only until the wise young woman comes along
Poe Dameron - i think they intended for him to be this trilogy's Han Solo...but damn they turned him to a Space Cowboy who only thinks with his dick and likes to fight yeehaw. They basically chastised him the whole movie and out right pointed out that it was the wise female leaders who saw the big picture while he was a simple hard headed boy...but pat pat pat they like his spunk. Is there any reason that the replacement to Leia had to be ANOTHER strong female leader? Seems redundant.
Finn...a silly dude who needed to be shown the way by his new girl.
Basically all the guys in this movie spend the whole thing being shown how wrong they are by the women in this movie.
People keep wondering why the frick Phasma or whatever even exists...i honestly think it was so they could say "see some of our female characters arent perfect heroes!"
I actually dont think that the fact that all the male characters are flawed in some way and all the female characters are not is even "feminist propaganda". I just think the writers are subconsciously scared or ill-equipped to depict women unflatteringly for a second.
Its one of those things that you roll your eyes at and then say "frick it" and keep enjoying the movie.

A bit? People bitch about Return of the King because they think it’s 15 Minutes too long. This has a good hour that can be removed in editing.

Then just put a gun in my mouth already because I’m not going to watch an entire trilogy with PETA and Black Lives Matter writing the script.
