Does he? I was too mad to remember those details.
Yep. I’m assuming he destroyed the shack. Then he force pulled the antenna to fight her with. Then, when she was knocking him down, it shows him use the force to suspend himself right above the ground.

the end of the movie was literally a scene of some street kid using the force to retrieve his broom
Did he really? It was kinda hard to tell.

Luke was disconnected from the force, so he was just Luke, the desert farm boy.
Rey said that as a throwaway line, but Luke was able to see Ren and Rey FaceTiming in the hut, and he literally blew the hut away with his visceral reaction to seeing it.
So the “disconnected from the Force” bit didn’t make sense at all.

That was stupid. It’s almost like Rian Johnson never even saw TFA.
The only one on that ship who would know who Maz is would be Finn, who talked to her for about 5 seconds in TFA. The only other people in that meeting are either dead (Han) or on another planet (Rey).
That was just a shallow attempt to squeeze her into TLJ, one that didn’t make any sense whatsoever.

The Force Awakened set a decent stage for the new trilogy, despite the SJW crap of the evil white men versus the gallant rainbow coalition. That's the state of Hollywood and especially Disney, so it isn't a real surprise. But TLJ is absolute crap, and opposed to some opinions, makes Attack of the Clones look like cinematic brilliance.
Best review of this abomination.

I’d rewatch it. There are plenty of minorities in the First Order including Hux’s Second in Comand being an Indian chick. I think from JJ’s mind, Oscar Issac was just a fantastic actor and making Finn black is an easy way to say visually that the storm troopers aren’t clones. As for a female protagonist, I think almost every writer/director would go with that given how easy of a change it is and that we haven’t seen it before.
Abrams wanted it to be diverse on all sides, but most of all wanted to recapture the spirit of Star Wars. Unfortunately his successor hated what Star Wars stood for and decided to destroy it all in the name of virtue signaling with no clear morals.

frick this movie. Every single time we continue to discuss it it just gets worse.
What a completely and totally wasted opportunity after TFA. They had such a brilliant set up with Kylo and Rey as great new and interesting characters and Snoke as a cool new badguy and Luke coming back and they systematically and thoroughly destroyed this trilogy.
The more I think about it the less I want to see IX.
Rian Johnson took a steaming shite on everything Abrams and Kasdan did in VII. I really hope Abrams just retcons it out of existence in the title crawl and then the opening scene is Kylo force choking a First Order General named Rian Johnson to death for insolence.

It's entirely conceivable that Poe and Maz had met at some point before off-screen... which could be easily explained by good writing during that scene. However, as with most of the movie, it was lazily written.

After I thought about that more, I took that line as a very poor attempt at showing that Luke was probably concealing his connection to the Force (masking himself) in another attempt to not be found, not that he didn't have his force abilities anymore. They just did a very poor job of developing that, again.
The line came after she did her little "balance" meditation and she said she could see everything but couldn't see Luke. She said he had cut himself off from the force.

The problem with that is when Yoda shows up he says "I have missed you, Luke"

Poe is at Maz's temple in TFA. He's the pilot Finn marvels at.
Luke had stopped connecting to the force. Rey shows up. She doesn't feel him during her first lesson. Luke starts to wonder who she is. He reconnects with the force right before they argue.
Y'all are just getting lazy now and making shite up.

There are problems with all of it. He uses the force to briefly communicate with Leia almost immediately after Rey gave that line. He clearly still had force abilities.
The only thing that I can think would work is he as learned how to basically turn it on and off. So, when he is off and Leia can't contact him, nobody can sense him, which has basically been while on the island, none of the force spirits could contact him either.

He was never disconnected from the Force. He knew what Rey was perceiving while she was exploring the Force immediately before she said that line and he was obviously using the Force to catch his lunch even before that point.
Either Rey was mistaken or the writing was shite. Your choice.
