Star Trek 1 was pretty bad, so why did you even bother watching any more after that?
I didn't find it to be terrible. It was an example of having 1 hour of material and padding it unnecessarily. It was a fundamentally sound Star Trek story - in fact a recycled twist on the TOS episode The Changeling, mixed with a little 2001.

Anyways, JJ Abrams shouldn't be doing Star Trek. Or at least not using characters from TOS.
You and I have found a point of complete agreement.

quote:why not? because trekkies don't like it? abrams brought in a lot of new fans to star trek and both of his movies have done pretty well at the box office. it seems like it was a pretty good idea. just because it pissed off a tiny fraction of the population doesn't mean he shouldn't be doing them.
Anyways, JJ Abrams shouldn't be doing Star Trek

Maybe based on some hard core trekkie nerd rating. I really enjoyed it, especially the humor.

I still don't understand the hate for this movie.

I have been a fan of the original series since 1967. Became an even bigger fan watching the reruns in the 70's after school.
IMO, the 2009 movie was the best thing to happen to the franchise since "The Undiscovered Country." Only a zealot, like those in Las Vegas, would think other wise about this movie or "Into Darkness." I guess you were not able to make the convention this year.

I've never been to a Star Trek convention.

So, Weintraub says radical chemotherapy or she's gonna croak. Just like that...
2ND INTERN:
And Gottlieb?
1ST INTERN:
Well, what'd you expect? All he talked about was image therapy.
BONES:
Unbelievable.
1ST INTERN:
You have a different view, Doctor?
BONES:
Sounds like the goddam Spanish Inquisition...

So, for example, a person can, in no way, judge Transformers 2 through 15 (or however many there are now) based on a viewing of the first film? That person cannot then say, "Hey. The Transformer films are steaming buckets of $hit" with any credibility?"
actually, they can't.

oh great another Ace Midnight hates the new treks thread.
Money means more than anything to filmmakers.

It's not like I've made more than a couple of these. I hated the first movie - what can I say?

Maybe so. Doesn't make it right, though.

I just like how "Galaxy Quest" made the list.

These two Abrams films are by far the best things that ever happened to or came out of the Star Trek franchise and you damn well know it.

i'm not a huge Star Trek fan but I can see why those who are would hate the new movies. They are basically Star Wars movies with huge deviance in the personalities of the characters. Very little of the philosophy and dialogue driven stories that make the old Treks what they are. Way way way way too much action.
