I did as well, and I've made no secret of it.

I never considered seeing it. I'm curious as to why you did, after hating the first one. I can see liking the first movie (i.e. The Matrix) and getting blindsided by the filmmakers with a load of crap.

But, fool me once...

Understandable since they use some of the same themes as the first movie and nothing really changes for the characters at the end of this one. They are in the same positionthey left off from the first movie with jj.

On another note Hollywood needs to stop getting Lindelof to write scripts. All he does is frick everything up.

Considering you have never and likely never will see it. You really have absolutely no idea what you are bitching about.

Internet trolling at it's finest.

True about Into Darkness.

However, I watched every horrible, G-dawful frame of the 2009 film - including the allegedly "humorous" moments.

sorry dude. Any opinion you have about into darkness is going to be ignored and/or ridiculed because you can be bothered to sit down for 2 hours and watch it. The fact that you have such a hard-on for this however, is fascinating.

So, for example, a person can, in no way, judge Transformers 2 through 15 (or however many there are now) based on a viewing of the first film? That person cannot then say, "Hey. The Transformer films are steaming buckets of $hit" with any credibility?"

A bunch of Star Trek fans voted it LAST - not mid pack, not worse than most, but LAST.

That just eats you Abrams' fans up, doesn't it?

i'm an abrams' fan and couldn't care less if trekkies hate it. doesn't take away my enjoyment of it. you have an unnatural hatred of it for some odd reason. you had to be dragged into the 1st one so you were severely biased going in

Not completely true. I did buy the thing (with Christmas money), myself. The story about the crew having to convince me, after I read some reviews, is true.

"Dragged" is too strong and I've avoided making that claim. I was excited to see the return of the TOS characters. I have been very fair and measured - point-by-point - as to my divergence with where the new film franchise is going. I explained where I felt the 2009 film departed from the original characters - and on a fundamental level - I'm not nitpicking stardates and sequences or things that some might, but fundamental differences in characterizations. I've even tried to give credit to Quinto and Urban for trying. I've admitted how it fits more of the "younger" film fan's expectations, but that I find virtually nothing of the original Star Trek in the 2009 film.

I don't know what else to tell ya'll. Was I trolling a little with this thread? Sure. Is it me saying Into Darkness is terrible, terrible? No. It's the attendees of the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention saying it.

Do I feel a little vindicated? Yes. Do I still intensely dislike Chris Pine? Yes.

(The irony is - I liked his dad's character on CHiPs - )

no. No more then you can be critical of any book ever written because you decided after reading the one book you know everything about every other book written.

A bunch of star trek nerds who enjoyed paying to watch what was essentially and extention of the next generation series can hardly be taken seriously. Those movies were shite. Each and every one of them.

Not a abrams fan. I am how ever a Star Trek fan. Something you clearly are not.

Insurrection was next to last. First Contact is legit.

ST 2009 and Into Darkness would hold the last 2 places for me, because they are terrible. As in Insurrection terrible. But, at least I don't hate Patrick Stewart.

at least you qualified your dumb arse statement as your opinion.

We both know the 2009 movie hit TOS on all cylinders. It made Star Trek fun again. Unlike that shite paramount was shoveling with the last couple of series (though I admit I liked the last season of Enterprise.)

Yup all the internet nerds who haven't figured out how to get out of their parents basements. Honestly their opinion doesn't matter. The movie wasn't made for their exclusive little club. To quote Simon Pegg,"frick them." His comments on the matter were dead on.

Again you have such a hard-on for the new movies its hilarious.

They did first contact in the 3rd season. As much as I like the borg as the big bad, sure would of been nice if we didn't have to save earth from them....yet again.

again, you are ridiculous. How can you have any fricking opinion about a movie you haven't seen.

You are everything that is wrong with Star Trek fans and why Star Trek was all but dead until 4 years ago.

Part of the problem I have is that it appears to "make fun" of Star Trek and its fans. Pegg's comments were very illumninating. I just assumed Abrams was saying "frick you" with the first movie. Now, that's being echoed by his actors. Well, frick them, too.

TOS has plenty of fun moments and struck a delicate balance between serious science fiction, adventure, social commentary with deeper philosophical issues about what it means to be human, what the future may hold, dealing with the unknown, etc., and did so in an entertaining way.

The better films, again, TWOK, FC, TUC, even TSS and TVH (ignore the freakin' whales - ya'll want me to ignore the flaws of 2 terrible movies) - retained a lot of that spirit and integrity.

The new films just appear to be product. Recreations, or "reimaginings" of older events, but done so clumsily that it ends up being a bad parody of itself - I was trying to overlook the classic mistakes of the first film (Abrams isn't the only guilty one - ALL reboots seem to fall into the same traps - the "first" time we ever heard this quip or that catchphrase, etc.), and trying to make sense of it - the cognitive dissonance was just too much.

Either make it as faithfully as you can (fine, update it - The Avengers is a great template for that) - or set it in the same universe, with the same rules and just use different people.

But, no they can't do that - so it appears that it "must" be a "different" Kirk and Spock. Fine. I don't like these, so I'm out.

Apparently, I'm not alone. Again, that just eats ya'll up, doesn't it?

Meh. Just wanted to make sure it was covered on the M/TV board.

You should get back in the TOS thread. That's something we can all agree on. I'm much better in a collaborative setting about something I like than this.
