To be fair it's only hated because it retconned Peter and MJ. Here this can actually work out well. Kill off MJ/Ned then do OMD which gives us the chance to see Mary Jane, Harry, Felicia, and possibly Johnny Storm

Sony still has their input on these characters, except maybe Michelle (MJ) since technically she is an MCU character not owned by Sony.
