The ending was brilliant, who would've ever expected a South Park episode to go out on that note? Even Kenny Dies ends up on a funny note.

They should have ended the series 3 or 4 seasons ago.

But I think it was just them venting more than an actual swan song.

That's what I think. The more I think about it, the more I am thinking that it was more them just getting shots in at all the cynics who basically bitch about how shitty the show is now, or how much it's declined. And it was delivered perfectly IMO when the doc told Stan that the disease was called being a cynical a-hole. Basically it was their shot at all the dipshits who simply look for things to hate about SP episodes.

People who only see problems and complain but provide no solutions are the worst people on the planet.
I dated a girl with Stan's personality in this episode right after college.

"How about we go to the movies?"
"Movies nowadays suck!"
"How about we go to the park?"
"Its too hot!"
"OK what do you wanna do?"
"Oh I don't care, just pick something."

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH......

Thankfully that is no longer my life

Did anyone see Matt and Trey on the Late Show a couple months ago? They admitted doing South Park is hard work and isn't fun. After last night's episode, one can surmise this might be the beginning of the end. I hope I'm wrong, but it's hard not to wonder.

Matt and Trey on the Late Show.

After watching that clip, I'll say that there's no way that this was the last episode. For starters, they said it was more "work" than "fun," but also..after seeing that clip, there is zero chance that they won't do an episode about Charlie Sheen.

Also, people keep saying Randy and Shannon...it's Sharon.

I don't think I've ever been more bumbed about a TV show ending than I have been about this (if it is true that we are near the end). I've watched every episode, and started during season 2 or 3 in '99 when we finally got CC on cable. It's just hard to imagine Wednesdays w/o South Park. I know they will run them forever in syndication but it is just not the same. :(

I didn't re-watch the clip before my first post, but after watching it again, this is exactly what was said:

Letterman: Do you still enjoy it? Is it fun?
Trey: It's not fun, it's work. It's not fun to do.

I don't see how that's any different than what I originally said.

I never thought or said this was the last episode, but it's perfectly rational to think they might walk away after they finish the next 7 episodes.

I would think CC would be making it clear that it was the final season and not just "the final 7 episodes" to possibly increase viewership the whole season through, though that ending wouldn't have been nearly as powerful if they had. I'd think we have at least one more full season to go, probably finishing out the 2 they are under contract for.

before SP, all I ever watched on Comedy Central was old SNLs and Comedy Central Presents.

South Park took the channel from fringe to must have.

In 98 when I started at LSU CC wasn't even one of the on campus channels. They added it around November that year.
The first time I saw SP, I was like "what is this shite, looking at it is giving me a headache", then I saw a giant satellite dish come out a kids arse and was hooked. That first season was so good. Kathy Lee Gifford, Worstershire Sauce, evil Stan (ba-chewie-chump), BEEFCAKE!...

When you see Lava, remember to duck and Cover...
It's coming right for us.

Agree...

I also think the growing up and stuff that you used to like now sounding like shite was a stab at the fans too.

Kind of a "You all used to love this type of humor, now you constantly criticize it... Its all shite to you now because your tastes have changed"

I actually think that this was more Matt and Trey telling people that they think they've become cynical assholes, and it has made me realize that at least with films, I am often a cynical a-hole. Like the Zookeeper and Mr. Popper's penguins jokes (both of which I had to endure while watching X-Men) made me do something similar to Stan.

Searched the movie board for a thread about this...needed to vent

I'd already heard some hubbub on the net, someone claiming that South Park may be ending soon because the latest ep was a "metaphor for how the show is going to shite." I blew that off considering that season 15 isn't even finished yet, but I just watched it online with my brother a couple hours ago, and...wow, I am fricking depressed.

As has already been mentioned, the ending argument seems pretty straightforward in revealing the creators' overall attitude towards SP...and what a terribly depressing note to end with on a finale. An end to the series certainly seems plausible at this point.

On the other hand, though, I can't help but consider the other possibilities that could come about in October. Perhaps they will continue with this storyline, either bringing the show to a close or simply pushing it in a completely different direction. Maybe the events of this episode will be only a minor shakeup as the storyline normalizes, or the show may continue as if nothing happened (doubtful, but at this point, who knows?)

Really, despite the fact that I haven't been a follower for half as long as most of you (was WAY too young to watch when it first came out ), I love South Park so much. Watching this amazing show has even become a family affair of sorts at my house. I suppose I still have a glimmer of hope yet.

FYI for those that don't remember, this isn't the first time Stan's parents have split up.

It happened in the Clubhouses episode. Probably doesn't mean much.

What happened next? How did they get back together? Was their getting back addressed at all?
